President Obama’s former military intelligence chief said on Tuesday that the administration ignored a series of developments that led to the spread of terrorism because it was politically convenient during the 2012 election cycle.
Discussing the intelligence reports that he oversaw as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn told CNN’s Jake Tapper:
“I think that they did not meet a narrative the White House needed. And I’ll be very candid with you, they just didn’t.”
Adding that such terrorist organizations “continue to just multiply,” Flynn said:
“I think the narrative was that al Qaeda was on the run, and (Osama) bin Laden was dead… they’re dead and these guys are, we’ve beaten them.”
Flynn’s accusations echo reports that top officials inside the intelligence community are concerned that the administration is overruling and disregarding reports that do not align with their political goals.
