The Lord’s will is revealed to us through Word and Spirit. If either of these two are lacking, we will come away with a distorted view of God’s will. If the Word is lacking, then we will end up in a baseless ungrounded spiritualism. If the Spirit is lacking, then the Word is to us only a dead letter. To know and live in the will of God, we are dependent on both, God’s Word and Spirit, to guide into all truth.

In addition to the Word and the Spirit, I think God also reveals his will through circumstances. By that, I mean God opens doors to guide us in a particular direction; and he also closes doors to directions he does not want us to go.
I don't believe God uses the open-closed door independently of his Word and Spirit.
And, sometimes he creates within us a desire. Now, not every desire we have is from God, and we have to be careful that we don't confuse our desires with God's work in us. But I don't believe places within us a desire that is contrary to his will, or contrary to the scriptures.

Yes I agree. God always uses His word & spirit.

Are you referencing here the revealed word of God brought under the Illumination by/of the HS?
Also think we need to know the Bible and apply it also, as sometimes the application side is left wanting!

Yes.

Yes, we need to apply God's will in our live, practically. But our application must always be informed by the Word and Spirit operating in our life (and to some degree, the circumstances of life as well.)

Yeah, good point. I figure Jonah probably knew that God didn't want him to walk through that door to the ship, but tried it anyway. Boy, did God shut that door in a hurry.
Speaking of Jonah, a Christian comedian told his story as part of a routine. I remember part of it. Imagine that you are a Ninevite fisherman doing little casting along the shore. Suddenly, a man comes walking toward you. He is covered with seaweed, his skin is bleached white from the whale's digestive juices and his eyes are big as saucers.
He walks up to you and hoarsely says "Repent."
I think I'd repent.
