The Lord's Supper

I've guzzled a quart of Welch's one time and never got a "buzz" one would have from alcoholic wine! Good laxative, though!

 

At our church, we call it "Eucharist". Yes, I attend a Baptist church.

We usually have the "typical" setting of broken wafers and tiny cups of grape juice, but sometimes the pastor like to mix things up a bit. Sometimes there is just a couple of big loafs, and we must each go up to the front and break a piece off. Once, instead of small cups, we were all given large cups and were encouraged to "mingle" and pray with others, repeating the thanksgiving several times with those around us. And once we even had fish instead of bread (I think it was the week or two after Easter, and was patterned after John 21).

 

My home church has the Lord's Supper every month, and uses grape juice (tastes like Welch's) and those teeny square crackers with the little puff in the center.

The Quaker meeting I've been attending doesn't have the Lord's Supper.

 

How come, when the ordinances are mentioned in the Bible, Believer's Baptism and the Lord's Supper, foot washhing isn't mentioned in the same context and not practiced in a lot of Baptist churces?

I was a bit distressed that while the topic is primarily aimed at the Lord's Supper, no one until the past couple of days mentioned the issue of footwashing from the poll.

I had never been a part of a foot washing or seen one, until I led one in a service. I didn't observe the Lord's Supper that week, as we had taken communion the week prior. I didn't know what to do or how to proceed from "traditions." Yet, I felt a strong burden to implement a foot washing as a follow thru to the Lord's Supper we had taken. Mostly, I did common sense things, like making sure the water was only slightly warmer than tepid, like you'd bathe an infant, and had plenty of towels. I even told the recipient ahead of time what I would do so as not to surprise or embarrass her. The logistics were the most difficult to figure out, since we didn't have the PA available, and the room did not have an elevated area for others to see.

Anyways, as I spoke, and performed the footwashing, I found myself becoming involved in the whole process, and almost choked by the end. If the Lord leads you to perform this simple, yet humbling, act during a service, I pray you will receive grace from Him as I did, as you minister to those around you. It truly blessed all of us that day, and I felt I took a giant step towards knowing Christ (Phil 3:8-14)

Was not the first L-rds supper a passover super? If you will read it tells you that Yeshua (Jesus), had his followers to go ahead of him to prepare for the passover super. Then He said that when ever you do this, do this in rememberance of me, meaning whenever followers of Yeshua (Jesus) partake of the passover service we should remember He was the passover lamb.It would of been eaten with unleaven bread and koshier wine.

Not all of us drink wine. When my synagogue
has its public seder on the night following the
Passover, my husband and I come, bringing
our bottle to be shared among the others, but
it is grape juice. I do not believe that drinking
wine holds a priority at the seder.
