Does He hate any person who is unsaved?

Scripture please.

In another thread, a good brother has asked a question that many continue to ask to this day...
"Does God hate anyone?"

I believe that this can be addressed by asking the equally important question:
"Does God love anyone?"

There's a reason that we as believers are to rejoice in His love for us,
and it is because of His hatred for sin and sinners, as a whole.
Just because God is love ( 1 John 4:7-21 ), does not mean that He does not hate something or someone:
He righteously hates sin and sinners, to the point of favoring His saints and even reserving the wicked to their everlasting punishment ( 2 Peter 2:9 ).

Scripture as a whole, bears this out:

Psalms 5:4-6.
Psalms 7:11.
Psalms 10:3.
Psalms 11:5.
Psalms 34:15-16.
Psalms 34:21-22.
Psalms 35.
Psalms 36.
( In fact, the Psalms are quite literally filled with this comparing and contrasting of God loving and God hating ).

Proverbs 6:16-19.
Proverbs 15:29.

Matthew 25:41.
John 3:36.
John 9:31.

Romans 1:18.
1 Corinthians 16:22.
2 Corinthians 5:11.
Galatians 1:6-9.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-9.

Hebrews 10:31.

2 Peter 2:9.
2 Peter 2:12.
2 Peter 2:17.
2 Peter 3:1-7.

and then there's Revelation 20 and what is coming upon the earth in the not-too-distant future.
All of Revelation after Revelation 3.

" The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John:
2 who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. 3 Blessed [is] he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time [is] at hand." ( Revelation 1:1-3 ).

He loves some, and has cursed others.
He has mercy on some, and not others ( Exodus 33:19, Romans 9:14-18 ).

For example, all who are outside of Christ are "accursed" ( "ἀνάθεμα", Greek, see 1 Corinthians 16:22, Galatians 1:8-9... transliterated into English as, "anathema" ):

While this subject is divisive, it is divisive for a reason...
Too many think that God loves everyone, and that He somehow only reluctantly casts people into Hell.

No, my unsuspecting friends...
He does it out of righteous judgment, punishing those who hate Him from the heart,
and loving those who love Him...

From the heart.

In fact, we as believers in Jesus Christ love Him, because He first loved us ( 1 John 4:19 ).

I will leave this thread open to comments,
even knowing that this subject has been debated on this forum ( and many forums ) for many years...
and will undoubtedly be debated long after those who read this are gone to their respective places ( Matthew 25:31-46 );

Whether to be with the Lord as the recipients of His grace ( Ephesians 1:3-14, Ephesians 2:1-10, Titus 3:5-7, 2 Timothy 1:9 and many others ),
Or to everlasting punishment as the recipients of His everlasting contempt ( Daniel 12:2, John 5:29 and many others ).


Please keep things civil, as I know that this subject is a passionate one for many.
Stick to the Scriptures, and study them out;
Don't resort to "logic" or to views of what we would like the Lord of Heaven to be...
It's His words alone that we should be relying on, and not our own reasoning ( Proverbs 3:5-7 ).


If I see anyone resorting to bashing people,
I will ask the moderators to exercise the appropriate discipline...
We as believers are not to do such things, my friends,
as it is a shame for us to behave as animals who fight with one another over scraps of food and many other things.

Yes, He shall.
Shall the Judge for the earth not hate sinners and condemn them for their willful disobedience to Him,
at the same time loving sinners and saving them because of His mercy and grace?

" (for the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth )
12 it was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. " ( Romans 9:11-13 ).

Romans 9, among many other passages, develops the fact that God does not operate according to what we think He should do, and there is much besides John 3:16 and several others as to both His love and His wrath.

In addition,
His ways are far above ours.
In the light of this, should we not trust what His words say that He is?

That was not the point of my thread, Scott.

My question was not about us as men hating others, which the Lord has commanded us not to do...
My point was, does God hate anyone?

Is it written anywhere that God does indeed hate people, and if so, why?

In my right mind I would rather leave the condemning to Him.

As would I,
For I know that He will do it in complete righteousness, and for His own, just reasons.

a man after God's own heart ( which I take to mean that he was born from above, and God gave Him a new heart ).

He tells me to show love to them.

Yes, He did.
All of His children were sinners in His sight, and He has redeemed them to Himself for all eternity.

I'm not sure why you keep coming to the conclusion that I am advocating that Christians hate their neighbor...
I am not.

I'm simply stating what the Scriptures say about God's love...
Not His commands toward us as believers in Jesus Christ.

The two are completely separate subjects, at least to me.

His commands are to bless them that persecute us, and despitefully use us.

We all deserve it, which brings me to my point:

That's what grace is...men and women getting what they do not deserve from the Lord;
His love and mercy, compassion and kindness.

We also can hate without God's help.

I'm well aware of that, Scott.
I have trouble enough loving my fellow man, the ones who persecute and hate me as well as hating my Lord Jesus.

On that last part it seems we agree.
To me, God never did hate His beloved children, the sheep of Christ's pasture.
In fact, he loved them so much, He gave His Son for them.

Believers or unbelievers?

See Romans 1:1-7.

Perhaps my doctrine puts forth a God that isn't taught in the vast majority of churches today...

A God that is worthy to be feared for His holiness and wrath towards those who rebel against Him ( which is all of us ),
and a God that is merciful to those who love Him and have been called out of darkness by Him.

That is why I stopped taking this subject of my own salvation so lightly over 10 years ago now.
It really is a sobering and special gift...

and definitely not one that anyone is worthy of in the least.
