The NASB

How do you know with 100% certainty what languages Jesus spoke? Don't forget that during that time period, many were bi-lingual due to the Greek influence. Do you know and can back it up with scripture that Jesus did not speak Greek?

Plus, you didn't address my premise that God, the Creator of language(s) would be able to speak any/all of them fluently.

just was saying that jesus "mother tongue" native language learned would have been Aramiac, but no doubt also knew and used Koine Greek and hebrew, perhaps even latin...

but jesus would NOT have been the Rosetta Stone, and knew all languages, he had limitations!

In a conversation with a gentleman yesterday, he told me that the NASB/ASB was written/published/edited by a woman.

Can anyone confirm or deny? Or shed any light on why he volunteered that when I mentioned it. My version of choice is the KJV, the one the Lord used <smile>.

Any info appreciated.

What's likely being referenced is the NASB's sister publication by the Lockman Foundation: The Amplified Bible.

http://www.lockman.org/amplified/

The first complete Bible produced by The Lockman Foundation was the Amplified Bible. . . . It is based on the American Standard Version of 1901. . . . Frances Siewert (Litt. B., B.D., M.A., Litt. D.) was a woman with an intense dedication to the study of the Bible. It was Mrs. Siewert (1881-1967) who laid the foundation of the Amplified Bible, devoting her life to a familiarity with the Bible, with the Hebrew and Greek languages, and with the cultural and archaeological background of Biblical times, which would result in the publication of this unique translation. . . . The Lockman Foundation, made up of Christian men and women who through their commitment, their expertise, and their financial support under girded Mrs. Siewert's monumental translation project. . . . The Zondervan Publishing House joined the team, and the dream became reality with the publication of The Amplified New Testament in 1958, followed by the two-volume Amplified Old Testament in 1962 and 1964, and the one-volume Amplified Bible in 1965.

Yes, Jesus had the limitations of human flesh. He could feel physical pain. He could thirst. He had human emotions. He had veins filled with blood that He would sacrifice for us.

How can you say, however, He did not know all languages? Can you point to scripture that indicates inability to communicate with all peoples was one of His limitations. Especially in view of

John 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine:

I disagree that John 16:15 supports Jesus spoke all languages. The Father knew the time of Christ's return but Jesus did not, therefore John 16:15 does not mean the incarnate Son held all the knowledge of the Father during the incarnation.

I believe when we study scripture, we should ask, what is the least it is saying, and try to avoid understandings that go beyond what is necessarily being said. Speculation is the mother of false doctrine.

Why would it be a problem if there was a woman scholar on the translation team?
Only is they have an agenda that is unbiblical and their brain does not function properly. Of course there are many men who would need to be qualified the same way.

in his tradition women are not supposed to learn more than men spiritually much less translate God's Holy Words

for a woman to work on a translation team, but not be the decision maker or supervisor, seems to me to be within the conservative view of scripture.

Huh?

Why would it be a problem if a woman supervised a translation project?

Here is a fundamentalist Baptist missionary lady who headed up the translation of the Bible into the Zarma language:

Spurlock, Arlene. 1989. Irikoy tira Hanna: Tira wo ra ni ga gar Alkawli Zeena kan̳ ga ti Tawretu, da Zabura da Annabey Tirey : da mo Alkawli Tajo kan̳ se i ga ne Linjila = La Sainte Bible en Zarma. Kokomo, Indiana: Evangelical Baptist Missions.

Some would say for the women to exercise authority over men on the translation team would be a violation of the principle Paul expressed in 1 Timothy 2:12. Others would say a translation team is not a church, but to the extent it is an assemble of believers exercising their spiritual gifts to present God's world to the world, it comes under the umbrella.

Less conservative Baptists would go further.

far better to have a conservative woman who knows her stuff to translate than the male "scholars" that produced stuff like the JW Bible!

The issue is not who might be best qualified, I am sure many women excel in translation skill, the issue is rightly discerning how to apply verses like 1 Timothy 2:12 to the ministry of Christ.

Far as I know, being in on a bible translations would not be "urseping authority over a man!"

as a former JW, i can appreciate your point. lol

At least both the Niv/Nasb commitees will publish the names of the scholars used on their teams, whle the JW will not!

Also, there 'Greek scholar" admitted in court could not read either Greek/hebrew alphabets...

Do you know if they still have their interlinear, as they have things left in there in the greek that went against own JW translation, and supported still Deity of jesus!

it still exists, i imagine. i distinctly remember that purple cover! lol

there would be three ways to obtain one, that i can think of:

contact the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society in Brooklyn, New York.

contact an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses "organization."

visit a local Kingdom Hall just prior to their meetings on Sunday (if you dare). lol

by the way, i threw away all my JW publications! what a catharsis! haha
