The problem Warner will have, Jeff, is wresting control of the Democratic Party from the moveon.org types.

As far as who I think, today, will win in November 2008 to be the next president my prediction is current Virginia Senator George Allen.

I will bet you your Gov. Huskster is a saint compared to our Ernie Fletcher. He has the whole state in disarray.

As far as who the President is going to be, it will be whoever wins the democratic nomination. By 2008, the country will be so sick of Bush and his antics, the republican will not have a chance.

 

1. Does your Fletcher grant clemency to convicted rapists and murderers? Does he try to get legistlation through that would provide state funded scholarships to college for illegal immigrants? Does he try to shove his diet down everyone's throats? Just because fat boy Huckabee lost two human beings worth of weight doesn't mean I should have to.

2. Aside from his war on terror, tax cuts and SC picks, I am kinda sick of Bush myself. Probably not for the same reasons as you I am sure though.

Hillary hasn't won the Democratic nomination yet, but that is where her battle for the Presidency will be. There are no Republicans who will have the independent support to beat any Democrat who wins their party nomination. And I hate to be pessimistic about democracy, but money wins elections, and Hillary and the Democrats will have a war chest that is estimated to be as much as four times the size of the one the Republicans will have to spend. She has already raised as much money as Bush did for 2004, and she's not officially a candidate yet.

 

Our governor is under indicment, and goes to trial Nov 8, for illegally granting jobs that are suppose to be filled under a civil service system. The Lt. Gov and him have broken ranks, and he may run against the Governor in next years primary. (we elect in 07).

The nation as a whole is going to be tired of Bush. My reasons are the rampant spending, the inability to lead with a Congress of his own party, and the border situation.

 

Doesn't sound too bad compared to the Huckster.

If the Dems take one or both houses of Congress this year, I believe McCain will win and have enough coat tails to give the House of Reps back to the GOP if he decides to.

If the GOP eeks out a victory this fall and the Dems have the wisdom to nominate someone other than Hillary then they'll probably win it. Those who strongly oppose her still represent a larger percentage than those who strongly oppose Bush. IOW's, she brings a big handicap into any national race. Worse yet for her chances is that she can't win where the Dems must win to retake the WH- the South.

There are few realistic models where a Dem can win without picking off a large or two smaller southern states.

 

I guess you don't subscribe to Gallup, to see the latest poll numbers. Hillary's positive numbers are running at 56%, the highest she's had since the surveys started. Bush's positive numbers are hovering around 32%, with this week's job approval survey showing 33%, and a composite of 36% for July.

Among Republicans, at the moment, with McCain being the steadiest favorite, the most favorable numbers are (sorry, Joseph) focusing on the Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee. But there are other Democrats who have a good shot and, if they can get out of the gate early, might make a race of it, should Hillary decide to run. John Edwards still pulls high numbers, and both John Kerry and Al Gore poll high against the Republican field.

Every person mentioned so far is at least competent, which would be an improvment over the one we have now.

 

America at large doesn't know all the facts about the reformed fat boy. Once they do, he will be lucky to get 2% of the vote.

I guess we found a point to agree on. The only thing we know the Huck will do is solve the prison over crowding problem. He'd just release them all...

 

I doubt that seriously. Huckabee may be just what middle America wants.

 

To be honest, at this point I would take anyone who is at least socially conservative. Unfortunately, I don't see many (or any) names that fit that part of my philosophy.

I think we can about guarantee that the next president will not be as big of a spender as W, so I'm not overly concerned about their fiscal label.

How about we break from the list and go "none of the above". We'd probably have better leadership that way.
