The English Standard Version is not the English Standard Version, nor should it ever be. It is a lightly dusted off RSV. It was a rush job to get it published in 2001. Now, 19 years later, it has taken micro steps in terms of improvement. For those who like ineloquent English, this is your Baby. Biblish abounds.
It arrived on the scene in the 21st century, but its form of English is an uneven mix. It has an ungainly, halting step. It can only be called a 'modern version' by a very elastic stretch of the term. Nonetheless, it is a serviceable version. It's to be preferred to the KJV. It is conservative and a God-honoring translation.
Yet it cannot be considered, in any sense, international. Thankfully, it doesn't pretend to aspire to that goal.
