I would like to ask you a question about the NWT (JW bible):

Is the NWT the Word of God or a cult? Pick one of 2 and explain your comment against/for it.

The NWT is not a cult. It is a book.

Oh sorry - didn't explain. It has a cover, a binding and pages. A cult does not.

The NWT IS NOT the word of God. It is a cult's version of what they want the word of God to say. It is based on the word of God, but has had the cult's teachings added to it.

The NWT is a version of the Bible that has been 'manufactured' (with the primary source being that of the ASV) to support the teachings of the particular cult officially known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

There is actually a fair amount of the version that is fairly decently translated, IMO, and a good deal that is translated acceptably, as well.

In fact, I have used the NWT when talking to a Jehovah's Witness, when once I did not have my own Bible on my person, at that time.

However, I would liken the overall NWT to drinking a solution that is 99% water and 1% strychnine, where I can assure you that drinking only 1% strychnine, in any appreciable amount, will certainly kill someone without any question.

This is easy. The NWT is a very bad translation. It comes from a horrible understanding of the original languages, along with a determination to defend a particular point of view.

The NWT is not a cult. A cult is a group of people. The NWT is a purported translation of Scripture.

Despite the awful distortions that the NWT "translators" made -- and sinfully so -- vast stretches of the NWT are perfectly acceptable. I would never recommend the NWT to any believer -- but its 1300-odd pages (according to my 1970 version)can't be condemned in toto. However, it's safer to steer clear of it altogether since there are plenty of accurate, orthodox versions today from which to choose.

Yes it can. When you mix truth with error, you still are left with error. This is the same way the devil uses scripture, mixing truth with error, "did God really say that?". That's precisely why we cannot believe the devil's words. They are a mixture of truth and lies.

The NWT is not a translation; it's a CORRUPTION of a translation, altered by two men to match JW doctrines. It was made in 1950 by Freddie Franz(who later became big kahoona of the Witchtower) and his buddy George Gangas, neither of whom knew any but elementary Greek, and not one word of Hebrew. The JWs tried to keep this fact hushed up, but some ex-officials of that cult who'd left it spilled the beans.

The 99% water, 1% strychnine analogy is correct here. The NWT contains SOME of the genuine worda God, but overall it's a CORRUPTION, as someone new to Bible reading could not differentiate between the true & the false. Thus, the corruption spoils all the rest, and it is NOT a genuine translation of God's word.

Now, lemme ask Jo: Is the NKJV God's word or not? If not, why not?

Hmmm - checked some of his research and it proved out to be true.

But then again, Askjo, I know your stance on it. I'm not surprised you don't agree with him.
