I believe that many have engaged the old man and by faith overcome and entered into that rest in this present world through the help and strength promised us by God. 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
That is NOT to say that sin is impossible for them, but that if they sin they sin so little it rightfully can be said of them that they do not sin.
Hi HP,
1. I conclude from Colossians 3:1-11, that when we were united with Christ through faith in Him, we died to the old man, which was crucified with Christ, and raised to walk in newness of life in Christ (Gal 2:20).
2. But there must have remained traces of the evil man in us, since Paul says "Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off your old self" (Col 3:9).
"Do not lie" is present imperative and "since you have taken off" is an aorist participle, whose action is antecedent to that of the main verb, "Do not lie."
3. The old man has already been taken off, yet with deal with sin on the inside (Rom 7).
