Good to have you back with us. I was out this morning and having a gander at my new planting of snapdragons. They are just coming to flower now.

What a good memory. You are right. We used to live opposite them, years ago now. They are like parents to us.

Yes, the gardens are quite colourful here also. We have a good display of roses and fuchsias this year.

Hi Sheila,

Glad I could remember that little thing, considering I have trouble remembering what day it is.

It is quite hot here and very humid. One is soaked through just going outdoors. We have air conditioning in the living room and the dogs love it. I hate to see them panting so badly with the heat, and in there, they don't pant at all.

The deer here have been enjoying the garden, but I think we have them stopped now. Used old cd discs on a wire strethed around the garden. It is supposed to fend off the animals. We shall see. I was watching an old onion plant that was up almost 4 feet high....they chose to chomp off the top of it!!!!! Maybe I should have grown leek..........:laugh:

Would the animals stay away from leeks more than the onion? They are very similar aren't they?

After a break of about 9 years I've recently resubscribed to "British Heritage" magazine. I'm enjoying just as much as before!
I've also recently resubscribed to a magazine called "American History" (formerly "American History Illustrated").
I've got some interesting reading when I snatch a minute here and there to do it.

Gayla, leek is the national symbol of Wales..nothing like a bowl of cawl cennin. Every schoolboy must consume a raw leek before he can graduate...it is much stronger than any onion.

We have some leek growing in our front woods, but daughter beats me to it every year.

Sounds like you have some very good reading material. About the only thing British I get anymore is a weekly rag (newspaper) which is published expressly for expats. Then, of course, I do have many relatives and we bring one or two over every year. I doubt if I will ever go over again. Mary and daughters went last year to England and Scotland. I am doing well to drive to Syracuse to pick up granddaughters at the airport....3 hour drive one-way.

Hello Gayla and Jim

It is hot here too. Humidity is 90 today. We don't have a/c. Rob is fitting a ceiling light/fan in Sam's room today. We have one in our bedroom and Leo loves to lie right underneath it. Jim, I tend to fill old margarine tubs 3/4 full of water and freeze them and then add chilled water and Leo drinks from them. He really seems to appreciate iced water in this heat.

It is too hot for me to be in the garden or greenhouse today until this evening. I am a bit breathless, so I think today is a pottering day, maybe some reading and knitting.

Gayla, I hope you enjoy your British Heritage magazines. Rob and I hope to be in the US in a few weeks. We are waiting on a friend who is expecting twins. I think the babies are going to have to come early. One of our friends wants me to do the purple people bridge climb with them. Hmmmm, not sure about that.:laugh: Here is the link:

I don't actually know that I will manage it myself.:laugh: I may give it a go. My friend and I were planning on doing it in the autumn. She died almost 2 weeks ago and her husband asked me if I would do the climb with him. We will see.

I am still using our son's computer. Ours is due to be delivered today, then we have to install it. Actuallly, I think that should really read Rob has to install it.

We have been rather busy of later, but we have to start thinking about and planning our trip to the US. I do hope the weather cools down a bit by the time we get there.

Good to see you posting in here Gayla. I was beginning to think the place had closed for the summer.

Oh, I am still about, just not about as I once was.

Glad the new computer is working out. It always takes time to get used to them. Shortly you wonder how you managed with the old one.

Busy working around at home and at the other house. Take care. We still have one more tree to cut up and cart off. I found a chap who will cut it up and take the brush and firewood away.

Wow - I just noticed this little place is stirring! Good to see everyone.

We have not really stopped since our trip to the States in May. I have have had so little time for foruming. At one time I was posting 20+ posts a day here I am lucky to get 2-3 a day now, and most of those are in a moderating role. I have done even less in other fora I used to frequent.

God is really at work here - we have had our highest attendances in years in our services. Two weeks ago we had our second hughest attendance ever. We have had 15 first time visitors in our services in the last couple of weeks and a couple of Christian families are praying about joining with us.

Right now we are all busy with the wedding of Polish couple this Thursday. This should be a fun week.

We are going to Pembrokeshire in Wales for a couple of days next week - looking forward to the mini-break.

Fashionable is it, Sheila. Wonderful. Glad you are enjoying your new computer.

We have had our fun with storms, gale force winds and huge trees falling, including the one that fell on our village house. Procrastination saved the day. The telly tower I have been taking down since three years ago, caught the tree and gently let it down on the roof with minimal damage.

Otherwise, all is well. Staying warm, but raining heavy tonight, and we sure need that.
