    Music,

Ponies were used in the pits (mines) in Wales. Some in the pit never saw the light of day and became blind when they did come up. Many years back, the upper ponies walked in circles driving the huge wheel that created the fresh air to the pit. These ponies served for so many years and then were put out to pasture.

I wrote that story when I was living in Wales. It was popular at the time and then forgotten. The publisher in London wrote me a letter asking about rewriting it.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Dan, I am still working on my stories of a rural vicar. I love narrative story telling. I always had a story for the children before they went to junior church.

My favourite is about the woodpecker who was working on a great Redwood when a storm came over and he flew off. When he came back, the huge tree was split down the middle. The woodpecker stood back, beat his breast and said, "My, did I do all that?"

The moral was "be patient in well doing and great wonders never cease."

    Cheers,

    Jim

I see that you have quite a task before you - having to write all those books! [IMG]

Maybe you should let your lovely wife do the mowing of your lawn - so you can concentrate on the important stuff - books and BB!

I won't be around much next week. I have a house to work on and will be spending considerable time to get the drawings done in the week.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Who said anything about money? If I charged regular architectural fees, I wouldn't be so popular in this field.

I just like to help people out.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Jim - if you charged regular fees - maybe you wouldn't be so busy - then you could spend more time on BB!

Just teasing - you serve others as our Lord would have you serve them!

PS - you should hit 7,000 sometime over the weekend!

I was standing on my front stoop and beheld a wondrous sight. It was a Hummingbird. It was hovering no more than 6 inches from my waist. I could almost have a conversation it stayed so long.

I call them the VW beetle of nature. The VW could travel 500 miles on one full tank of fuel, and the Hummingbird flies from Florida to Mexico, 500 miles across the Gulf on one feeding. In ordinary times, this same bird must feed every so many minutes to maintain its energy. How wonderfully God has made all creatures great and small. Nothing man can even begin to copy.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I enjoy watching the hummers...one has a habit of coming to the artificial flowers outside my doorstep that my grandson gave me. I wonder if it realizes the fakery.

We picked up more flowers and garden plants at an Amish greenhouse this afternoon.

Last year - Jan saw a hummingbird in the greenhouse. Apparently - they visit the greenhouse often.

Took a set of pictures of the construction of an Amish barn - to the barn owner today. He is going out of state next week to attend the marriage of one of his grandsons. He will take the pictures and show the family just what they missed at the barn raising!

The Amish in Pennsylvania would not allow us to take their photo. They believed that the camera captured their soul. We could take photos of the buildings and surrounding though. They are a fascinating people.

    Cheers,

I have the equipment to take pictures at a distance.

Most all the pictures I've taken of the Amish - I either shown the photos to the subjects - or given a copy of them to them. (There are a couple of exceptions!)

Yesterday - the barn owner - said he will probably remove a few of the photos from the album.

I also asked a 22 YO Amish lad - that if I made a copy of a certain photo of him at work at the barn raising - would he accept it. He thought about it for a moment and said "no" - that I should keep the photo!

    Good morning,

It is early this morning, too early to know what it will do outdoors.

Dan, they would be marvellous photos for posterity. A book written about the Amish by an outsider, with inside information, would be very good reading, I suspect. Those photos would make a wonderful suppliment to that book.

I remind everyone of my absence, so that no one thinks I am ill.

My wife's mother was taken to hospital yesterday morning with congestive heart failure. It was touch and go for most the day. We have left instructions with the attending physicians, "No heroics". She is well advanced in age and in frail state. She is intensive care as we speak on heart machines and oxygen.

Cheers to all, and God bless,

    Jim

Thank you, my beloved friends. Undergirding each believer is that knowledge that the saints pray one for another, and the prayer of a righteous person availeth much.

Mary's mother is coming along, but will remain in hospital in the intensive care unit. Yesterday they removed the oxygen tube to wash her and in just those few minutes she looked like death warmed over. I fear she will be on the oxygen for the rest of her life. When she does come out we are exploring several options: (1) a nursing home; (2) engaging someone to stay with her at our village house. She just can't live alone anymore.

We own two estates. We live on 100 acres in the country, but we also own a village house. They are only 1 1/2 miles apart. Mary had breakfast with her mother every morning and we motored her to a number of events, so she has not been neglected. She will need constant care now.

Cheers, and thank you very much for your concerns and prayers. God richly bless you all.

    Jim

Sometimes we have to make difficult decisions regarding our aged loved ones.

We were fortunate with my dad - the Lord took him quickly - so no decisions had to be made.

With Jan's father - we were not so fortunate. When he was in the hospital - they sent us to at two places that took the aged that could not stay alone.

The first was not ready for patients - and to my knowledge - they never were.

The second had room for him - but it was a less than desirable situation.

They finally found him a place in a good nursing home - but it was 25 miles from home - so it was difficult to get to see him as often as we would have liked to.
