I'm a happy drag on. Old paths are better and they do work...

"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein." - Jeremiah 6:16

There is a problem with this mentality, in my opinion.

Instead of following God where He goes, we pitch a tent where he has been.

Pastor Anderson...love your website and listening to this sermon now. This is good old fashioned preaching, with excellent use of scripture and aligns with wonderful preachers of yore such as John Wesley, Lester Roloff, Billy Sunday, John Bunyan and many more. They understood what was so obvious, alcohol is a poison and there is God's wine and the devil's wine.

May God bless you, your blood family and your church family and may he continue to give you Godly wisdom and discernment as is so evident in this sermon.

    [Edit: Sanderson to Anderson]

How would you prefer the verse to read?

Which "old paths" are you following? How far back are you willing to go? I suspect you go back only as far as you are familiar with.

Afterall, the "old paths" say nothing about posting on BB via the internet, yet oddly enough, here you are.

We joke, but the message is entirely accurate. Those who "cling to the old paths" are usually hesistant to REALLY cling to the OLD paths. Instead, the cling to the paths they are familiar with and call them old.

In 1940, those same paths you are calling old now, were considered new and heretical.

You know, if you make everything bigger, it means more (especially your name).

    y'know...with a sermon on wine...

I figured Mr. Anderson would smash grapes with a sledge hammer...

(I'm still incredulous that he claims that God is the King James Version of the Bible).

Rufus, how can you compliment a man that believes the KJV is God?
    http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?p=55805#post55805

I know we have disagreed, but that is a stretch even for you.

And some old ways don't work... those are the ones I am talking about..
You don't chant do you? That is an example of an old way of praising God....But how many here do this?

    Pie socials, are another example...
IMO, scheduled fall and spring revivals are others...
    Saturday night sings....
There are others, but I won't hijack Mr Anderson's thread...(Hey isn't that the name of the agent on the Matrix?)

(edited to provide link to Sanderson's heresy..... Yes it is heresy to add to the Trinity)

Because I have more in common with monotheists than polytheists?

On the issue that is germain to this thread...he is dead on, unequivocally, without a doubt, absolutely, positively, Biblically accurate in his assessment of alcohol...and so I will compliment him and will stand by his side in defense of the Word.

    hmmm...

So it's OK to promote heresy as long as you are a tee-totaling heretic.

    I see.

    Explain that statement.

Rufus, my main problem with the OPer is the method of delivery. The "baseball bat" approach is not how Christ taught or preached in 99.99999% of the Scripture we have.

So Rufus, do you believe, as Mister Anderson said,

    That creates three problems:
    1. It is blasphemous. It equates the Bible with God.
    2. It is ignorant. Were the puritans of the 17th century polytheistic? The Geneva Bible and the KJV, for a while, were concurrently in usage. Mister Anderson, besides blaspheming, knows nothing about translations and history.
    3. It is insulting. How dare someone claim I do not worship the One True God?

Nope. The 3 agents in The Matrix were Agent Smith, Agent Brown and Agent Jones. Thomas A. Anderson was Neo's real name.

Is the Bible the Word of God? Is not the Word part of the Godhead?
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." - 1 John 5:7

What say your Bibles on this issue?

Recommend a return to the OP. What did you think of his sermon? Where are the errors in it that would cause you to believe it is not a sin to drink alcohol?
