The popular TV Video series "The Chosen".....

Greetings,

I would like to know who has viewed this very popular TV Video Series "The Chosen" presenting the Life and Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is directed and co-written by American flimmaker "Dallas Jenkins" and produced by "VidAngel or Angel Studios", a "Latter Day Saints" a Mormon video streaming organization .

It's first season apparently was the "top crowd-funded TV series or film project of all time" as quoted from Wikipedia.
The goal is to bring the Gospel to at least One Billion viewer's.

I personally have watched all 2 season's, it is a moving and an emotionally charged video series, with excellent production qualities, and I do see the crowd drawing and pleasing aspects of this production. However I do have some concern's, and I was wondering if any one else has viewed this "series", and what their thoughts, and/or concerns might be. All from a Biblical point of view of course.

I have not watched it. But I have read the Book, the Bible, the Holy Scriptures. As they say, the book is always better than the movie.

Thank you for your response, it is appreciated!

Me also I have read the Lord's Word and have been taught by it through the Holy Spirit for the past 44 yrs.
I also am called to be a "watchman".
So I have watched it....it's important to do so for the "good of the babes in Christ" who could stumble and fall through deceptive teachings, through the various media's that are offering said "Gospel and Life of Christ".
Have a blessed weekend, I do believe it is a holiday weekend for the USA.

Yes, I have watched the series. They have attempted to create back stories for the people in each episode. They try to make each episode pull at your heart strings, evoking an emotion from the viewer. There are some interesting features in that one disciple has a physical disability which Jesus does not heal (the actor is disabled) and Matthew is portrayed as being on the autism scale.
Some might balk at Mary Magdalene as she is shown, in at least one episode, teaching others as well as men. The artistic license is such that I watch mainly to ensure that Jesus is portrayed as God. Since the Mormons have their hands in the production, I am concerned that Dallas Jenkins, the creator and director, will compromise this important truth as the seasons continue.
Jenkins is your typical American evangelical in that theology is less important than entertainment value for the participant. I enjoy the entertainment, knowing that Jenkins is a free will proponent (yes, the irony of the show being titled "the chosen" is not lost on me). Watch for fun, not to be taught theology.

Thank you for your views on "The Chosen", yes the LDS which has produced the "series" is owned by a few Mormon's......and that association is very uncomfortable from God's perspective therefore mine also.

Yes, they do take considerable, "artistic licenses". I personally do not care for the actor "portraying Peter", nor the Catholic man who plays Jesus......

It will be interesting to see how other brother's here in Christ will express their views on "The Chosen" and what other information that may have.

Well concerning the reviews, and secular at that, a scripture comes to mind.

Luk 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Luk 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

I will do more research into this, to see why I am not at ease regarding this "film". Will keep you in tuned!

The series is fictional written around what is understood to be real history about Jesus of Nazareth. What came to mind is a belief held by some LDS, but not all. And it is not even an official teaching of their church. The idea Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene at the wedding in John 2:1-11. Now Season one episode 1, "I Have Called You By Name," is about Mary Magdalene. Episode 5 is written around the weddings, "The Wedding Gift." As far as I know, beyond my bring this issue up, there is no hint of this teaching in any of the episodes, especially the two episodes here mentioned. Only that the issue crossed my mind.

Yes, there is some history, but I do not care for the "imagined" characteristic's of some of the "Disciples". They have Simon (Peter) as some, gambling, conniving, full of himself "fisherman". And Matthew is "Autistic" really?! That is just a couple that makes me think creating them as such character's is almost "slandering" who they were in real life.

Those are some of my discomfort's, but one big one is their collaboration with the LDS....That is one hurtle I can not get passed.

Any way thank you for your thoughts. Season 3 will be coming up in the summer, I think.....

The first season when he's a tax collector, before being called by Jesus, Matthew is a numbers genius who needs everything in order. He is socially awkward and unaware.
Then, throughout the episodes he struggles with how to relate to others, but he is a meticulous note taker. Like I have said, they take artistic license to fill in back stories.

Yes he is portrayed as writing the first Gospel account, he is always taking notes, once he is called to join the Lord.
He is also not very well liked by Peter, Peter is portrayed as somewhat of a "bully"......(puke)........

I watched a Christmas episode on YouTube, and it was okay. Some friends from church and men's Bible study enjoy it, but like you, I have not been at ease with it. The passages you quote make an excellent point. The collaboration with the LDS is good enough reason to avoid it for me.

As believers in the Biblical truth of the actual accounts. The fictional aspects are problematic. LDS or not.

Proverbs 18:13, ". . . He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. . . ."

At the very least I would not promote the series.

As defenders of the faith we should have some kind of sound answer regarding or dealing with the series.

I agree, we need to bring forth everything and anything which does not meet the Foundation upon which the Lord Jesus Christ and His Apostles have built!
This is for the good the of the Sheep,"The Body of Christ" especially those who are babes or immature in the ways of the Lord, for they can be easily manipulated to follow the Broad path that leads unto pain and suffering.

That extra Christmas special was perhaps the worst episode.

They have a new slogan, which seems rather suspicious, and I do not like the connotation of it. Here it is:

"Get Used To Different", and it is a "trade mark" slogan. Don't you think the word different, is rather underhandedly used?
It makes me beg the question, do they mean a "different" Gospel?

I don't think it has anything to do with theology. It has more to do with portraying Jesus as having a sense of humor and enjoying life rather than being entirely stoic as many theatrical versions portray him.
