You have to wonder if it is the hand of the Vatican authorizing the spending of hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees so that the niece of Archbishop Sheen cannot have his body moved from New York to Peoria, Illinois? It shows another strange side of Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
Only an old person like me can remember when Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was on television with a regular program. He represented conservative, traditional Catholicism, now sidelined by Vatican II and the new syncretism of Pope Francis. Shunned in his own lifetime and exciled to Rochester, New York, he died in New York and was buried in St. Patrick's against his last wishes. Now his familty wants to move his remains back to Peoria, Illinois, where he was born, and began the process of applying for sainthood for him.
However, the archdiocese of New York has gone to court at least four times to stop the exhumation and removal to Peoria. Cardinal Dolan is not giving a clear reason to the best of my knowledge but has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the issue. Each time the courts have ruled against New York and Cardinal Dolan.
