The older brother is the child of God who mistakenly believes his righteousness earns him something. I think he is a believer throughout the story..

I think the older brother represents one who sits in the pew each Sunday but is still lost. I'm not saying lost as in no salvation, I am saying lost as in yet to have complete love for the Brotheren. I don't mean lost like Judas but more like the disciples who went back to fishing after Jesus died. I don't mean lost like the Pharisees who denied Christ I mean lost like Peter who denied Christ..... Get my drift?
