The motif seems to have first been used in Neolithic Eurasia. It was also adopted in Native American cultures, seemingly independently. The swastika is used universally in religious and civil ceremonies in India. Most Indian temples, weddings, festivals and celebrations are decorated with swastikas. The symbol was introduced to Southeast Asia by Hindu kings and remains an integral part of Balinese Hinduism to this day, and it is a common sight in Indonesia. The symbol has an ancient history in Europe, appearing on artifacts from pre-Christian European cultures. The mention of the swastika does, however, point to something in SFIC's argument, and that is that certain symbols become so freighted with meaning that they are no longer "mere" symbols, but have the power to call up fierce emotions. The swastika, especially when spray-painted on a synagogue, has "power" -- psychological and emotional, I would say, rather than supernatural. A noose hanging from a tree limb anywhere near an African-American community has terrifying power.

So isn't the principle of "if eating meat offered to idols offends my brother I will not eat meat" applicable here? The Bible folks probably used the symbol in all innocence, but if it is offensive for reasons they did not know, it makes good sense and expresses Christian charity for them to remove it.

The difference is, the swastika is notorious because the Nazis tried to overrun the world. (Even so, there is a town in northern Ontario called Swastika that has resisted every effort to change the name to the present.)

A triquetra spray-painted on a synagogue or hanging from a tree in a black neighbourhood has exactly zero emotional force. It's apples and oranges.

The KJV-only windbags who objected to the triquetra on the NKJV had an agenda that went beyond a triangle on the spine of a book: they want to discred it the Word of God. Who cares about the anti-Christian droolings of a bunch of loudmouths?

With all due respect, Standingfirm, Christians have never used the swastika. I merely mentioned it to show that this now-almost-universal symbol for evil was once seen in an entirely-different light long ago, and was little-known in Europe & the New World before Hitler. However, it is seen on artifacts from ancient Troy, and in old American Indian artifacts as well. And before Hirler, it always stood for POSITIVE things.

The manju or manji is found in the Nintendo game Legend Of Zelda(1st game) as a "dungeon" with its interconnecting rooms forming the symbol, but the maker of the Zelda games is Japanese, so no surprise there.

But I'm wondering why you don't comment on the fact that the t-shaped cross was once used as a PAGAN symbol, before Christ's crucifixion.

I believe the meaning of an old symbol is different for people living in different eras. For example, I was born in 1948, so the swastika has been a symbol of evil to me from the gitgo, while the cross has been a symbol of Christ's dying for our sins from the gitgo. As for the triquetra...maybe the NKJV men didn't know its exact meaning, so they removed it.

BTW, the common fish symbol people often have on their vehicles to show they're Christians was a pagan symbol up until a few hundred years ago.

The triquetra thingie shows KJVO at its most desperate, trying to justify itself. Shoot, at one time, they tried to match it with the head of a staff held by someone on the cover of a Led Zeppelin album. Actually, this staff head appeared more like the club in the playing cards suite.

Which tarot cards? There are over 200 types of tarot cards, most of which came about in the past 30 years. If you are talking about the witches tarot, there are at least 3 of them and they are all recent.

If you mean the original tarot - we don't even know when those came about, SFIC. The tarot deck we see today was drawn by A H Waite. His tarot deck was published in 1909.

Although tarot may go back to the 14th century, we do not know what those cards looked like as we have only the more modern renderings of them and the origin of tarot is disputed and shrouded in time. We only know about the modern use of tarot -- since the late 1800's when E. Levi first posited a connection between tarot and the kabbalah. Then Waite designed the tarot most used today, the Rider-Waite deck from 1909.

So it still remains that when the triquestra was first used on the bible (and what date was that -- I've lost track?), it had not been used as far as I know on tarot decks and had not been used by witches, who did not exist yet as a modern religion with their own symbols.

I have re-read my post, where have I lied. I have already apologized for mis-reading the site you posted. That is something that apparently neither you or your wife are capable of doing when you are shown wrong. Don't ever use the term from my post "in a manner of speaking"--you have already shown yourself incapable of discerning the meaning of peoples post. If I considered you a liar, I would have called you a liar. Just like I called your wife a liar for stating that I have called those who defend the KJB names. I never have done such, I have stood strongly against those who hold the KJVO position. Now you have joined your wife in slandering a brother in Christ, with no evidence, except your warped view of what another has said. It would be nice if for once you could acknowledge you were incorrect about something and apologize for your unwarranted statements. I wont hold my breath for that to happen.
