The Word and the Gospel

From General Baptist Discussions,
a question was asked,

"Do I have to quote the Bible when sharing the gospel?"

A response was , "No, you do not have to quote the Bible when sharing the gospel."

I would tacitly agree but somewhere in the process of new birth the bible plays a most important role.

Being born again,
not of corruptible seed,
but of incorruptible,
by the word of God,
which liveth and abideth for ever.
1 Peter 1:23

One cannot be born again without the word of God.

Jesus answered and said unto him,
Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:3

So then faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17

So then I could possibly say, "Make up your own gospel," so you do not have to memorize any scripture, but do not expect new birth as a result, just might be a stop on the way.

Disclaimer: Positions I argue may not be my own.

I am not surprise to hear such thing as: "No, you do not have to quote the Bible when sharing the gospel."

Taking to account condition of the church in general and how far the church went from GOD, no surprise that such thing has been said. Actually this is the most wicked and stupidest thing to say, and definitely came not from the Christian.

Spreading Gospel and not quoted it is the same as to speak from yourself and not from GOD. When atheists or unbeliever hear the Gospel verbally, they sometimes asking, "Is that actually written in the Bible?" They want to see the proof of your words. And what you will tell them? "Sorry, I do not quote Bible!" How possibly anyone can believe you when you speak from yourself?

Ephesians 6.17

17.And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of GOD.

Word of GOD is not in us, it is in the Bible, when you read the Bible, only then you speak words of GOD. But if you among your brother and sisters Christians, you can speak word of GOD as you remember it, and it will be considered as the word of GOD, because they are remember and know the passage you are spoke of.

In the past it was practically impossible to carry the scrolls and teach the Word of GOD, but the Lord GOD put His Words in their hearts and mouths, and they spoke Words of GOD as it was intended to.

In first century A.C., Books of Gospel were not compiled yet, and Apostles and other early Christians delivered Gospel of Christ verbally, but still used Old Testament prophecies as a proof about Jesus Christ the Messiah.

And they also have the Words of GOD - the Gospel, in their heart and in their mouths which the Lord GOD inserted into their souls.

Today everyone can afford Bible and even it made in pocket size, so how hard it would be to propagate Gospel with the Bible in the hand? And at the same time provide proof of your words.

Surely Bereans were very smart people and do not trust anyone, until the check the words of Apostle with the Scriptures.

Acts 17.10-11

10.And brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11.Now these were more receptive than those in Thessalonica, they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.

But because today's world is so evil and Satanic, and the Lord GOD and His Gospel are no longer Authority for majority of the Earth and even for "Christians," no wonder that future generations will completely loose the sight of the Bible.

Amos 8.11-12

11.Days are coming', declares the Lord GOD, 'When I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the Words of the Lord.

12.And people will stagger from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they will go to and from to seek the Word of the Lord, but they will not find it.'

It will happen because crooked people will replace the Gospel with their own words and own agenda, and people will listen to them and believe them and would not ask them to prove their words by the Bible.

I have been in many churches, and in some I found no Bible to read. Now imagine such time then you would not find Bible in your country or even in the world!

Here is the original thread if you would care to read it:

Do I have to quote the Bible when sharing the gospel?
I read the original post by Guido, and my message I posted very well answered it.

The point is that the early Christians have nothing to start with or to check with when they heard the Gospel from the letters of Apostles or verbally from other people who were witnesses of Christ teaching and miracles.

So they must believe the Gospel from whoever teach them and told them the teachings of Christ, without any proof.

The only reference ordinary people had is the Old Testament, the Torah and the Prophets. Because Spiritual teachings of Jesus Christ completely and solely based on the Spiritual Commandments of the Law of Moses, so the people to whom Gospel was preached can only look at the Old Testament to see and to check if the Gospel they heard matching the Spiritual Commandments of the Old Testament.

That is that Bereans did.

Such position and condition of the early believers is similar to that Jesus Christ said to His Disciples, which means that you must believe whatever you heard because there is no any written or visual proof of it yet:

John 20.29

29.Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

But when the New Testament was compiled, assembled, and canonized into one Book, it became very good tradition of the Christian church to follow preacher with the quotes and passages of the Gospel in order to verify his words. This method is essential for learning and proper understanding of the Gospel to all.

Those who do not follow preacher with the Gospel but only listening his words, can be easily fooled into wrong and ungodly doctrine and end up in complete spiritual blindness, which is happen very often among church goers.

Even by knowing and understanding Holy Scripture very well, I would not trust anyone who verbally preaches to me the Gospel and does not prove his words by the written Gospel.

More than that, I would recommend to stay away from such people, because everyone who has no proof of his/her words, usually considered as a liar.

When Jesus Christ preached His Gospel He very often quoted passages and verses of the Old Testament, particularly prophets, in order to proof His words.

So how come any true Christian would ignore such method and preach Gospel without proof of his words? I would not trust such person ever.

One thing that helped me along the way was my friend telling me that the bible had never made an error regarding prophecy.

That stuck in my mind for years but was not a quoted verse.

However, I did not receive Christ without the word being preached to me.

So then faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17
