In keeping with the season, I thought this thread might be instructive.
By making a statement, it is intended to encourage others to voice their opinions and scholarly work on the matter, too.
Statement: The Word of God (His actual thoughts expressed in active voice) and Jesus are the same.
The opening lines of John's Gospel declares, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."
John establishes how Mary, the mother of Jesus, conceived yet still a virgin, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
In Genesis God spoke and creation existed. John clearly states in this same passage that, "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." And again, "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him."
