We value freedom of expression and freedom of speech in this country. That is absolutely essential in underpinning our democracy. But we also value tolerance to others. We also value tolerance in relation to religions. This is one of the issues that we’ve looked at in the counter-extremism strategy that the government has produced. I think we need to ensure that, yes, it is right that people can have that freedom of expression. But in doing so, that right has a responsibility, too. And that is a responsibility to recognize the importance of tolerance to others.

Tolerance is not a historic American virtue. Liberty is. Tolerance can be revoked at the whim of the masses or the rulers. Liberty supersedes both of them.

This is an extremely important question, with all sorts of ramifications. It seems that the "traditional" (Scriptural) acceptance of criticism of Christians & Christianity is being exploited legally by antichristians.
e.g.
the LG cake case;
professionals being sacked for offering to pray with patients/clients;
Stephen Sizer, peacemaker, being threatened with dismissal for a post on Facebook deemed antisemitic - he wrote something like "there are questions to answer."
etc

At the same time people of any religion, including Jews, being reprimanded, expelled from political parties for "antisemitism" when the criticise Israel for its treatment of Palestinians. Extended time is given on public broadcasting to such cases.

And of course Islamic countries viciously persecute Christians, other sorts of Muslims, & subjugate women & girls, justifying their actions by the teaching of the Koran.

We can even be guilty of using offensive speech because others are offended, even if offence is not intended - by public reading of Romans 1.

The British evidently have no understanding of the truth you have posted. "Tolerance" has become a convenient excuse for the government to take away some of the the freedoms of British citizens.
