This goes way beyond "politics"
This is scary. It is scary because we can expect God's judgement on our country for tolerating this stuff!

This is why we should not have any prayers or invocations in government meetings. Freedom of Religion means ANY religion. You cannot have it both ways and still have religious liberty. If we get state sponsored prayer back in school, you'll see more of this...just one reason I am against that too.

God help us.

When we start allowing hindu/buddhist/muslim etc prayers to be prayed rather than prayers to the true God...the God who's worship this country was founded on...its all over for us. We have finally hit rock bottom, and thats not a good place to be considering who it is we are turning our back on and offending.

May God richly bless those faithful brothers and sisters that where heard objecting and praying to the living God.

May God have mercy on the rest.

Sadly,

Mike

We most certainly should have prayers in our governmental meetings. They should be be prayers to the true and living God, and not prayers to satanic counterfiets. We of course should not dictate a particular denomination. That is what the christian founders of this country fled in England. Simply christian prayers to the true God.

Thats what this country was founded on. Scripture passages are chisled in stone all over our governmental buildings in Washington and state governmental buildings.

Why was that done?

Its obvious

This is a country where everyone is welcome and can worship as they please. But in our public schools and govermental gatherings it is the true God alone that we are to recognise. If others from other faiths are there tey can pray silently to whomever they want to pray to. If they dont want to hear the name God or Jesus being referred to, they are free to move to some other country where they wont have to hear that.

If we start choosing satanic counterfiets instead, or we cease acknowledging, trusting and thanking the true God, we are doomed as a country. Literally.

how do you reconcile that with the first commandment?

Psalms

33 1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. 2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. 4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. 5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done ; he commanded, and it stood fast. 10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. 11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. 13 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. 15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. 16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. 17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. 22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

Mike,

Mind showing us where in the Constitution of the United States this is stated?

I agree with Magnetic Poles. But living in Utah where I am in the minority and the majority thinks they worship the only true god may have given me a different perspective. I have been at goverment meeting and sat thru their prayers, it lets people from not the majority faith know, this is our meeting and you are an outsider.

I am for a moment of silence to pray to what ever faith you wish or none at all. The goverment is to reprisent all people Christian, LDS, Hindu, etc. Catering to one faith while excluding others does not accomplish this. You either let every faith pray at meetings or none.

I'm in agreement with this, too!!! I've preached this 20 years ago---when we allow prayers in schools and in government meetings---OK--we're gonna pray---but to whos god??

I'm reminded of the request by the prophet Elijah on Mount Carmel

"The God who answers by fire, let Him be God!!"

We'd clear out both house and senate chambers if we made this our request!!!! Amen????

What amazes me is that we seem to be on the fast track to hell. How many other civilizations went from where we started to where we are in the record time we took?

I odn't know Npet. What other country has ever lasted this long with our form of government? We were the grand experiment, no one ever thought we'd last this long.

I'm with MP and the others. Forget worrying about public prayers by folk who may or may not know Christ. Our Bible says specifically "If my people who are called by my name..." That is us folks and we can do what needs doing in our homes and churches and God will honor that according to His promises. He doesn't say "if the atheists and the hindus and the christian scientists and the......" He puts the burden squarely on the shoulder of us Christians.

With all due respects to you, the First Commandment is for the nation of Israel. It was not commanded to the nations surrounding Israel, in other words, the heathen.
The command to have no other Gods before me, is for those who are part of national, and by implication, spiritual Israel.
Government is a secular personality.
In due time, God will judge this government, right now they are shaking their fist at the True God, but God will have the last laugh.
I go with Magnetic Poles on this one.
If we are in another country where they observe prayers to Allah or to Hare Krishna before opening up their sessions, we can always step out.
If we compel them to bow their heads in prayer to a God they do not know, there is no reason for us not to expect them to compel us to bow our heads to a god we do not know.
There will be judgment, we can be sure of that.
When the dictator Marcos was expelled from my country, the darling of the middle class, Cory Aquino, was a Roman Catholic b--t kisser who allowed idols and statues to be erected even on public property.
One was erected on a main road, on private property, 50 feet high, of the "Blessed Virgin" and below that was incscribed the words of 2 Chronicles 7:14.
In other words, the words of the Living God were being ascribed and credited to a dead god.
Well, that was the year Mt. Pinatubo erupted, followed by a big earthquake in the summer capital, and that government throughout all its tenure never had rest from coups d'etat and various rebellions.

Having said that: THE MUSLIMS AND THE HINDUS ARE LAUGHING AT US RIGHT NOW FOR OUR STUPID POLITICAL CORRECTNESS !!!!

What I am curious about now is, what will the ACLU be doing ?
Will they be up in arms, or are they up in arms only when Christians are involved ?

What does our form of goverment have to do with anything?

Anyway, the Roman Empire lasted about 500 years, I think.

Our money says "In God we trust."

I assume that does not refer to Allah...
Yes Helen it does but take a look at the all-seeing eye above the "Great Pyramid" on the US Dollar.

Does Isis-Horus come to mind?

Also IN GOD WE TRUST is in uppercase so we don't really know if it means "god" or our "God".

Just an observation.

The Roman Empire was NOT a democracy. It was a kingdom. Yes, some of our laws are based upon it, but a good deal of others are not.

I still don't see what that has to do with anything.
