The Welsh came here in the early 1900’s and were on fire for the Lord. They built their churches before they built their homes. They would work hard labor jobs 6 days a week then on Sunday went to chapel at 730AM and stayed till nightfall. My Great grandfather Evan (John), an elder in the Baptist church traveled from church to Church IE Welsh Methodist, Baptist, Congregational because he could read & speak the English and translated for the varied congregations. Music hymns, food, and constantly praying was the mode of each Sunday for the Welsh churches/chapels in Pennsylvania & Delaware in the day. So what happened???

Where I live in northern New Jersey, I can’t pinpoint a truly gospel centered church. So with that being said, shouldn’t we be concentrating on planting churches right here?
Go down to Red Bank and visit the FBC-RB. I was a member there for 15 years. It's a great church.

Like Jesus, Pratt is a radical. It's appropriate that he wrote a book by that name. But, I don't share his regard for Am Muller.

But of course, you first need a pastor on fire for the lord. I just watched a church near me drone on via reading a script he wrote on baptism for 45 minutes…. Dead, dead, dead. What happened to memorization, to passionately appealing to people, to gospel truth etc. Whitefield was quite successful that way; I was always quite taken with Lloyd-Jones’s intelligence and wit, What these guys today lack is passionate delivery of the gospel and so nobody who is seeing to understand scripture is going to waste their time. If your going to get people interested in the gospel then send them people who are exuberant, animated, intelligent and totally committed to spreading the word of God.
What does it mean to be dead?
Jonathan Edwards read his sermon, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, from manuscript, with no voice inflection and never looking up at the audience. He purposed in his heart, through prayer, that God must move the heart, not Jon Edwards.
Edwards had to cut short his reading because of the screams of anguish and congregational sense of being undone if God did not intervene. That was a work of God as God willed to move.
I caution that "fiery preaching" is not necessarily "alive" preaching.
Former pastor of Fountain Street Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan...Duncan Littlefair...comes to mind. People were held by his oratory, yet he denied the diety of God and openly denounced the Bible from the pulpit. Now...that man was dead, dead, dead...and today he is in hell, hell, hell.

The key factor in that sermon was not Edwards, not the sermon, but God.

I figure if God could use a donkey He could use us. ;)

I personally don’t like anyone without personality… I’d walk and have walked out on people who just read their sermons however when they bring out those rousing praise bands I take that time to go to the bathroom… consider it using my time wisely

A blessed message from Pastor David Platt titled, "Come Together for the Sake of Those Without the Gospel."
If we cannot come together in unity for this central mission, then we are most to be scorned by our King.
Isn't he though seen as being "suspect?"

Doesn't he push Critical race theory and interesting takes on biblical sexuality?
I'm not sure we are talking about the same guy.

Platt does believe churches should be united in Christ and not be divided by race, and he has encouraged multi-ethnic congregations, if that is what you mean.

Here is Platt on sexuality:

Our culture insists that true freedom is found when we get to express ourselves and follow our own desires. Scripture’s teaching on sex is seen as restrictive and outdated, and many people are even wanting to determine their own gender. In this message from Colossians 4:2–6 and other selected passages, David Platt points us to Scripture so that we can understand God’s good design for sexuality and gender. The One who created us not only has the authority to set the parameters for us, but also He has the wisdom to know what is best for us. As Christians, this is increasingly becoming a costly conviction. Nevertheless, we must believe and proclaim the truth––that true and lasting satisfaction can only be found in Jesus Christ.

Sexuality in Our Culture: An Open Door for the Gospel

The only issue I know of was complaints when being considered for the IMB position that he is a Reformed Baptist (some in the SBC did not believe Calvinism and missions would work....ignoring Platt devoted most of his life to missions). He raised eyebrows when he spoke against the "sinners prayer" and "inviting Jesus into your heart".

Rev Mitchell recently published a list of woke pastors and Platt was on the list. I distinctly recall that the list clearly indicated he was bought and paid for.

LOL, just listen to the message in the OP and tell me if the message is Godward and unifying across theological differences.

So, you cannot agree with the message David Platt shared at T4G2022. What is your disagreement with what he specifically said?
Are you an Old School Baptist? Or do you have familiarity with them. Do some research , that should tell you all you need to know.

I agree here. I attended a church that had a three million dollar annual budget. Over half of that was staff salaries. Then you had to account for utilities, building upkeep, etc.

Jon - any ideal what % went to missions?

EWF - would you say this Wiki gives a good explanation of ORB?
Old Regular Baptists - Wikipedia

Keep one thing in mind - the term "Regular Baptist" is used quite often in the Wiki article.

The Regular Baptist listed there are NOT connected with the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches
(GARBC) colloquially know as Regular Baptists as well.
