This post is just an observation about something God did that I didn't really think about until recently, but maybe it's worth sharing...
We have a hedge of blackberries along the back border of our property (hey, this is OREGON!) and they need yearly trimming to keep them under control. Blackberries are famous for having LONG vines and horrid thorns. Trimming them can be an exercise in self-mutilation if you are not careful!
But I have learned that leather gloves are ideal. I can grasp the thorny old things with impunity and cut where I will!
So I've been doing that, and, as normal, thinking all kinds of things while I work. And one of the things I thought of was that it was leather -- the hide of an animal -- which was the best protection.
And then I remembered that the ground was cursed and that thorns and thistles would grow as a result of sin.
And THEN I remembered that when Adam and Eve found themselves naked, God made garments of skin for them. That means, as we know, an animal was killed to cover the effects of sin.
Are you ahead of me yet?
The hide of an animal is leather.
And it is leather that is the best protection from the thorns and thistles.
God gave us protection even from some of the pain of the effects of the curse right from the beginning.
I, personally, can't help but appreciate that.
