Hmm… my great grandfather came from the Soviet Block and started a business in the Coal mines
Anon: ‘My mom told me stories of how the government was paying farmers to burn their crops. My grandfather refused. He came from Russia prior to the Revolution and saw clearly what FDR's administration was doing and that people were going to starve. For him it was Deja vu. Not only did he refuse to plow under or burn his crops - he gave food away. He and my grandmother took a lot of heat in their community for calling out what FDR was doing. He said that FDR was implementing communist policies and that the only difference between the centralized policies of the Soviets and FDR was that FDR was implementing them more covertly using propaganda rather than Stalin's overt heavy handed methods. He also taught us... never give up your guns... no matter what.’

My great grandfather was from the Soviet Block, came to this country and established a 400 acre farm in eastern Pennsylvania. He farmed it the old fashioned way by 2 teams of horses for plowing and other tasks. The grandchildren all pitched in doing manual tasks. There was no automation like tractors which I always questioned. Now in Russia and the Ukraine, Uncle Joe was shooting farmers for mechanization of their farms and taking their land. Bottom line, I always suspected that the old man feared that the USA would adopt Russian tactics and take his farm.
could you please explain why FDR would have farmers burn their crops? Doesn’t make sense. Thanks.
