It was a Covenant death in order to purchase and redeem the elect given to Him by The Father before the world was. He loved them with an ever lasting love, and is not willing that any of them perish. Why did Jesus willingly suffer on the cross?
Why did Jesus willingly suffer on the cross?
To what end?To appease God's wrath.
The Bible says that ".....the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
And the Bible says that the MIghty "King of Glory" came to this earth and "declared the Father"; that is, demonstrated the very nature of God, by going to the cross. And it says that that this Mighty King of Kings did it all for that JOY.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
And where do we fit in that? The Bible says that the law and the prophets, everything, hangs on "loving God and our neighbor as our self" Enjoying the fellowship of one another. That's what will be happening in that Kingdom of God, and Jesus is overjoyed about that because He loves us so much.
