Is everyone happy with the suspension, fines, and lost draft picks ?

I can't stand the Patriots. They're cheaters. Over and over again.

That said, it's clear from the investigation that Brady was almost certainly the instigator of the deflated footballs. The four game suspension is about right (but I would not have complained if it were longer); I think the fine of $1M, the highest the league can dole out, is about right; I don't agree with the loss of draft picks. Upper management and most teammates probably didn't know Brady was doctoring the footballs so the whole team should not be punished in this manner.

Yeah, but the NFL has taken on a stance of ignorance not being an excuse. The Saints team was fined for the actions of a few players and one coach during the Bountygate scandal. Now the Patriots are feeling the sting from Deflategate. The lost draft picks (from what I read a 1st rounder this year and a 4th rounder next year, will hurt worse than anything.

By the by, can we stop adding the word "-gate" to the end of everything that's a scandal? Please...

Would have preferred an 8 game suspension or even longer. They are cheaters. Always have been. And when they are not officially cheating (like Spy-gate), they are skirting the rules with substitutions. Or remember when they had a snow plow come and clear the field so they could kick a game winning field goal? Winning at all costs. No integrity at all.

It's not just that Brady knew about this. Most likely, he instigated this. Do you think the equipment manager did this on his own?? Of course not. And he did this during a championship game. And to top it off, he pulled a "Hillary" and refused to allow them to see his many texts.

Pete Rose may have bet on baseball games, but you never saw him cheat -- and he is still banned from the sport. The Patsies and Brady are damaged goods.

Not a fan of the Pats, but I certainly hope that the word "probably" guilty is never the grounds on which any of us are judged.

The league came down on hard on him and the Patriots because they are trying to repair their Ray "2 game suspension" Rice image and they know that the head dictator is a friend of Kraft, the owner of the Patriots.

I don't have a problem with Brady not handing his personal cell phone over to the NFL. That's his phone, he didn't get it from the team. The NFL has no right to look at his phone.

Yes, when you cheat you cheat to win. When you bet on baseball games, you might not want to win. That's worse. Rose deserves his banishment.

Sure seems like a lot to do over chasing the skin of a pig.

Should we be praying for their souls?

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

When you bet on your own team winning, you will make decisions to win that one game over others. You will keep pitchers in, take them out, replace players, leave them in too long……

But he has plenty of memorabilia in Cooperstown. Shoes, bats, gloves, he was a monster. He just doesn't have a plaque in the shrine. And rightly so.

"….a first class jerk"
Bill "the Spaceman" Lee, Red Sox legend, talking about Pete Rose.

Agree with you about the phone.

Only GOD really knows who the actual guilty parties are in this case, but SOMEONE is EVIDENTLY guilty, as underinflated footballs were actually found.

The punishment? Depends upon your pointa view. How much harm was actually done? Had the deflated balls not been used, the score of the game against the Colts mighta been 42-7 insteada 45-7. However, the NFL generally strives to keep the game clean, as baseball does. Any baseball pitcher caught doctoring a ball to tryta gain an advantage is ejected immediately.(ALL pitchers rub a new ball to gain a better grip. )

One solution would be for both teams to use the same footballs. Another would be for all game balls to be inspected by officials immediately before kickoff, their being liable for random inspection after any play by either team.

If we do not strive lawfully, we do not get a crown. e.g. If you do not follow the rules you cannot get the gold. There are exceptions to this for the last fifteen years in the white house. We have no complaint, having elected both gentlemen twice.

We are making a case for amorality abounding in our country.

With the kind of money involved in pro sports, corrupted heroes should not be surprising.

Someone was probably taking bets on the lions and the Christians in the Roman Coliseum.

Heard on sports talk radio this morning that the Patriots have the lowest fumbling percentage per play when playing at home in the NFL. Also, Tom Brady has the lowest percentage of interceptions when playing at home. He also has the highest disparity of interceptions home vs. away.

I'd say it's been going on for longer than one game.

Not true. Baseball pitchers routinely rub pine tar on the ball, a clear violation of the rules, but they rarely enforce it. There was one case just last year where there was so much gunk on the pitchers hand and neck, Michael Pineda, that they couldn't look the other way and ignore it.

Check out Kenny Rogers in the 2006 World Series. The Cardinals appealed to the umpires and they didn't call an infraction.

Best solution is to have the NFL officiating crew in charge of the footballs and not the home team. Easy-peasy.

Yes, you nailed it. Most people never think of this aspect of betting on your team.

Let's say you're Pete Rose manger of the Cincinnati Reds (he bet the most when he was managing) and you have a bet on tomorrow's game, the bet is the Reds are going to win the game. Meanwhile, a situation comes up in tonight's game where you should use your closer. But you don't because he pitched yesterday and you might need him for tomorrow's game. So for tonight you don't put in your best bullpen pitcher and you lose the game.

I heard the words 'circumstantial evidence' being used by various sports' outlets, and enough circumstantial evidence can get you the electric chair...

Yes, it can but the standard that is being used is, according to the NFL Statement:
preponderance of the evidence, meaning that ‘as a whole, the fact sought to be proved is more probable than not.’

You can't get the electric chair when it is probable that they did it.

I suppose you'd like to get 25% of your years salary taken from you because you probably did something wrong.

This is what happened to USC in California...

As a result of sanctions issued by both USC and the NCAA, the Trojan athletic program received some of the harshest penalties ever meted out to a Division 1 program. The football team was forced to vacate the final two wins of its 2004 national championship season, as well as all of its wins in 2005. It was also banned from bowl games in both 2010 and 2011 and was docked 30 scholarships over three years. The basketball team gave up all of its wins from the 2007-08 season and sat out postseason play in 2010. The NCAA accepted USC's earlier elimination of its wins between November 2006 and May 2009 and did not sanction the team further.[1]
Shortly after the NCAA handed out its penalties, the Football Writers Association of America announced it would no longer recognize the Trojans as its 2004 national champion.[5] In June 2011, the Bowl Championship Series stripped the Trojans of the 2004 BCS title (leaving Ohio State as the only non-Southern school with a BCS title), though the Associated Press still recognizes the Trojans as its national champions for 2004.
Bush is the first person in the Heisman Trophy's history to give his trophy back to the Heisman Trust, and the 2005 season is the only one in the award's history for which there is no winner.

Isn't it interesting that some in the NFL are crying foul!... Those in the College sector have no trouble doling out punishment and are not afraid to do so... Baseball didn't either "Pete Rose!... Time to get tough!... Brother Glen

It's the story of a man named Brady
Who deflated several football's in a game.
Now he's got himself an NFL suspension;
Yes, he's the one they blame.

When the story of this league is over,
And those models of their heads are all that's left,
Our descendants will then read this crazy story
And say "We're not bereft!"

Well, all the 'pundits', from NFLN to ESPN, those who have read the Wells' Report all state that they believe Brady and the Pats all did it, in their opinions. The Pats denied Wells a second interview with the main guy in question...can't remember his name. Why did they do this? They then turned around and suspended him w/o pay. The Pats were penalized moreso for lack of 'institutional control' from what I've heard...

Of course, espn and nfln agrees with the NFL. Do you think they would jeopardize their access to the shield? They know who pays their salary.

My point was and is that they couldn't say for certain that Brady did it, but that it was more than likely. I bet Roger G hopes his continued employment by the NFL isn't based on whether it is more likely that he saw and knew about the complete Ray Rice video before he gave that woman beater only a 2 game suspension.

No. Whether Tom himself orchestrated the deflation was NEVER discovered. No where in the report is Tom proven guilty.

Team punishment? Yes
Cheaters (men who knowingly deflated) punished? Yes
Brady made a scapegoat/whipping boy? No way
