Tancredo to Abandon Presidential Bid

By GEORGE MERRITT

DENVER (AP) — Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, whose forceful opposition to illegal immigration vaulted him to national prominence, plans to announce he is abandoning his long-shot bid for the presidency, a person close to Tancredo said Wednesday.

The five-term Colorado congressman planned to make the announcement at a news conference in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for Tancredo or his campaign.

Sad to see Tancredo go ,he is such a nice guy. I do admire the guy for bringing illegal immigration issues more to the forefront.

This is not all bad, people will be talking about immigration for a long time because he spearheaded this campaign. He spent a lot of money on phone calls & his grass roots efforts were a big part of why the amnesty bill was defeated. Sad to see him go. But we'll be seeing the effects of his efforts.

I like Tancredo and tend to agree with him more than most of the others in the GOP race...but to call him a longshot is an understatement. He had a snowball's chance of winning. But i do agree that he helped bring immigration to the forefront.

I agree 100%. I could have voted for him, unlike Giuliani or Romney.

Apparently msn hasn't got wind of this yet, for they, apparently, have not noticed.

In fact, that may be "why" Rep. Tancredo is dropping out, if in fact, he is.

Not enough people have "noticed" he was even in the race, to begin with.

One of the few consistent conservatives who gives a darn about the Constitution - and had the walk to back it up. Hate to see him go. I just lost a candidate I could have supported.
