Me three. I also donate blood, and am on the list for kidney, platelet, plasma, and marrow donating if needed.

My $.02 is, there's no need for a shortage of these organs.

I am a organ donor, and have been since the first day that I got my license (23 yrs.), I became a marrow donor, as soon as I knew that there was such a thing.
I stand by my statement, that ALL life is precious.
I was referring to any free medical, wether it be in Mexico or the US. If these people felt like they would get good care in Mexico, I doubt that they would risk (and give up) everything to come here (legally or not). I am in no way implying that Mexican doctor's are less than US doctor's, it's just that theor country is poorer than ours, and they may not have the newest technology and equipment needed for these things.
No I don't agree with Illegally entering this country. Would I go to another country illegally to get "the best" for my child? YES, I would do anything!
I don't believe that "lifesaving medical care" should be withheld from anyone, reguardless of nationality, age, wether they are legal or not, even if the problem is in someway self induced (smoking, asbestos poisoning, any other exposure type disease).
The value of life is the point I was trying to make to you.

I for 1 have issues with illegal immigration and the way our government deals (or fails to deal) with it. Then again, regardless, the tragedy was due to a human error. This error was preventable and needs to be dealt with. The family should have some recompense for their tragic loss. They should also be treated like illegal aliens. I am sorry for the family, but by the same token, they need to be sent home and they can follow the legal channels to come here.

The sad death of Jesica Santillan puts two important issues in an unwanted spotlight: illegal immigration and striking surgeons.

First of all, it's important to remember that Mexico is not exactly a country without any qualified doctors or surgeons. I've been to Mexico City. It's a huge, sprawling metropolis with millions of people, people of all incomes and walks of life. Do you not think that Jesica could have received proper medical care there?

Instead of paying someone thousands of dollars to smuggle Jesica into North Carolina, maybe the Santillans could have taken a bus trip to Mexico City. Of course, it's not likely that she would have received the donated health care and hundreds of thousands of dollars raised on her behalf if she had stayed in her native country.

And secondly, how does this story play against the background of disgruntled surgeons turning their backs on their patients all over our country and going on strike?

Sure, medical malpractice insurance premiums are outrageous. But so is the decision by surgeons to act like union thugs and walk off their jobs in protest. These aren't people who work on an assembly line in a factory. These are lifesavers, men and women who have learned special skills that put them into a category all unto themselves.

I wonder if the surgeon who made this reckless mistake at Duke will even get a slap on the wrist. Not likely. And yet if you or I made a mistake in our job that led to the death of another human being, we'd be fired in a heartbeat.

We must stop this tendency to put doctors into an "untouchable" category and treat them like the very fallible human beings they are.

The Santillan family managed to get the final dig at the United States after their beloved Jesica's terrible death. Duke spokesman Richard Puff confirmed their decision to refuse to allow any of Jesica's organs to be available for donation. How about that.

Let's see if we'll have the guts to send this family of illegal immigrants back to Mexico now so that they can grieve in their native country.
