Trinity -- Modalism -- ????

Exactly. No one preached to me "What do you think about the Trinity?" handing me a questionairre, and if I failed, told me I was going to hell.

As a matter of fact, I only knew I was lost in my sins, and that He was my Savior, and that only He could save me, being the Son of the living God.

This brought to my memory of what someone told me one time. He stated that God saves, and not Jesus. Do you agree with this?

You're getting bent and twisted over nothing. Did I say one can come to the Gospel rejecting who Jesus Christ really is? Exactly, I didn't.

My contention is that one can be saved without a concise understanding of the Trinity.

I agree. But one cannot be saved in a state of rejection of the Trinity. Ignorance and confusion is far different than outright rejection because outright rejection demands you understand it but reject it.

Regarding me, this was posted...

The way he expressed the Trinity is the correct view, IMO. Now, if he holds to the modalist view, it wasn't expressed in the words he wrote in that post.

Thats correct. The reason is because I am a full blown trinitarian, and have been since I was born again way back when.

Then missionaries condemn more people to hell than they save because people who have never heard of the Trinity but believe in God are "saved?"

You explain the Trinity to a person. if he says, "I don't understand" he is saved but if he says, "That's goofy" he goes to Hell?

The actor that has three masks, can only wear one mask at a time. That is what this theory teaches. At one time he is wearing the mask of the Father. At another time he is wearing the mask of the Son and at another time he is wearing the mask of the Holy Spirit.

When he ceases wearing a certain mask, for example the Spirit, the Spirit ceases to exist because that mask has been laid aside.

God is one being but eternally manifested in three persona's that are co-equal and co-eternal. God does not put on one mask at one time and then another mask at another time.

Furthermore, these persona's are not simply "masks" but three distinct conscious personalities that fellowship with each other.

Sebbellianism would teach that one man can be a father, a son and a husband all in one person. However, each is only true to a certain audiance. To his wife he is a husband but not her son or father. To his children he is a father but not their son and husband, etc. God is all three all the time to all His creation.

To them, god would be the SAME Being, just taking on role of the father in OT, jesus in NT, Holy Spirit today...

Bible states that jesus was with God, is God, but NOT identical, not SAME person as the God that he was eternally with!

John thru the Greek grammar and construction made it quite explicit that jesus was forever God, yet was NOT God the father!

What does God's Word say?

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

well, since jesus IS God?

Think ALL 3 of the Godhead involved in getting us saved!

Generally good thread.

I have a question from a modalist and have no answer, so maybe you all can help me.

If one takes a Trinitarian view, why could the Holy Spirit not come as long as Jesus was here?

The Holy Spirit has been on earth since Genesis 1:2 and will continue to Revelation 20.

He could not come in the sense of "another comforter" within the congregation of Christ as long as Jesus was fulfilling that role. When Jesus went back to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to take that particular job (see Acts 15:28):

Acts 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

The Holy Spirit simply took on another role that previously the Son had fulfilled.

yes, for he was to be their advocate/counseler, just as Jesus was with His merry men, the Holy Spirit would live in each one of His people after his ascension!
