There's never been a ruling on jus soli, that Kim one just claimed some Chinese guy born here to two LEGAL immigrants was a citizen, and that other one was some 5-4 decision that said we had to let illegals attend public school, read the dissent. I think jus soli is enough, but some clarification could help = I'm reading the 14th literally but hope there is an EO in the future - it will be stayed ASAP and appealed up to SCOTUS.

Current law is, imu, that if one parent is a US citizen the child is a a U.S. citizen regardless of where they are born.

When McCain was I believe the laws were different. If both parents were US citizens then yes, no matter where they were born. If only be parent was citizen, then the parent must be 21 years old. It was changed in the early 1960’s.

There are several soccer players who have dual citizenship because of the same situation. They are free to choose which national team they play for but forbidden to change once they play in a match.
