Garbage.

The US helicopter was grounded due to bad weather. Gen. Kelly was sent instead. President Trump will visit another cemetary later.

.

Exactly.

Leaving out important details to manufacture a negative story is the very definition of fake news.

Trump demands respect?

Actually I saw the news video and he said the office of the presidency deserves respect.

As for me both he and the office have my respect.

Unlike our former president he doesn't go around bowing, scraping and apologizing for America's greatness.

Matt, you've run into a major difference in the significance Nov. 11 holds in the US and what it holds in other countries of the WW1 alliance. In the US, we honor our living veterans on Veterans (Armistice) Day. We commemorate our fallen on Memorial Day in May. The two days are bifurcated as Memorial (Decoration) Day had been commemorated for almost fifty years by 1918.
So you likewise don't think your own fallen veterans deserve respect then?

Paris is a rat's nest.
I smell a hefty dollop of BS in this explanation: there's nearly always a back up plan for bad weather and the Aisne-Marne cemetery is easy driving distance from Paris; it would be like Theresa May visiting Washington and then cancelling a scheduled visit to Arlington.

Nah, he couldn't be bothered. This is going down really badly over here even among conservatives who normally support his policies. Nicholas Soaked, Churchill's grandson, and a staunch Conservative, tweeted that Trump was “not fit to represent this great country.

“They died with their face to the foe and that pathetic inadequate [Trump] couldn’t even defy the weather to pay his respects to The Fallen,” he wrote. “Such a terrible insult to the American Fallen who died far from their homes and country, and he couldn’t be bothered.”

"Yesterday, as the French and German national anthems were played…"

Regardless of the reasons Trump did not attend, given the criticisms leveled at him, shouldn't Americans be appalled that the American national anthem was not played in tribute to the American fallen?

Why does this matter? Trump has very few friends in Europe. He implied that it was a security problem. Paris is more dangerous than London and dirtier than San Francisco. The French don't even have the original railway car. Gen. Kelly represented the USA.

Trump goes everywhere and does everything. I am sure that the Europeans did not miss Trump. I am sure that Gen. Kelly did a fine job.

Probably CNN sent lady killer Jim Acosta....

The French just used the USA as cannon fodder in WW I. If they had had their way, they would have installed a French commander of American troops. As Powell said, all the ever gave us was a place to bury our dead.

It could be that Melania was unwell. France has to be a security nightmare for an American. Paris is a no-go zone. Tourists don't go to Paris anymore. Europeans are falling to Muslims en masse.

You can't talk Trump's ass out of this one. And it matters because he's alienating some of the few friends he has left here: when you can antagonize an arch-conservative and loyal friend of the US such as Fatty Soames or Tobias Ellwood, you're in trouble.
