Trump fared well with women voters despite sex assault claims

Los Angeles (AFP) - Despite sex assault allegations hounding him, fat-shaming a former beauty queen and his controversial abortion stand, a large number of women voters helped put Donald Trump in the White House.

Though his rival, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, clinched 54 percent of the female vote, Trump was backed by 42 percent of women voters, which contributed to his stunning victory, according to CNN exit polls.

Some 53 percent of white women voters supported the Republican candidate, CNN said, the majority of them (62 percent) non-college educated.

The results upended predictions that sexist and degrading comments Trump made against women would sway female voters -- who accounted for about 52 percent of the electorate Tuesday -- in favor of a candidate that could have broken the glass ceiling.

Experts said the outcome is not surprising, and reflects an election in which issues about the economy, jobs and immigration were much higher on all voters' priority list than gender issues.

Great example of how to spin statistics. Trump was backed by 42% of women, which the article tells us, "contributed to his stunning victory." The fact is ANY vote for Trump contributed to his stunning victory. Getting only 42% of the female vote is pathetic.

Four years ago Mitt Romney received 44% of the female vote, 2 points higher than Trump, and it was cited as a reason why he lost.

In 2008 McCain got 43% of the woman vote.
In 2004 Bush got 48%
2000 Bush 45%, Nader 2%
1996 Dole 39%, Perot 7%
1992 Bush 38%, Perot 16%
1988 Bush 52%
1984 Reagan 54%

To win an election with ONLY 42% of the woman vote is unprecedented, and an indication that women don't like you.

Sigh.................in the context of the accusations made against him during the campaign it is not. In fact in the context of a man against a woman it is not.

Trump ran against the first female presidential nominee, and so it's no surprise he lost the woman vote. She had one leg up from the get go. Many woman were voting identity politics only.

And yes, considering all the "false" accusations against him, it was amazing he did as well as he did. There was a debunked rape accusation floating around about him on these boards.

Next election he'll do much better with woman.

Somebody showed me an article on huffpo, slamming white women as being failures to the cause of feminism and the reason for Trump's election. It was nasty.

Did they blame Hillary? She's the reason they lost. The voter turnout among Dems was the lowest in many, many elections.

Accusations. Lol, I mean the source was Donald Trump's own mouth.

Am I supposed to take it as a positive that Donald Trump won despite accusations/bragging about sexual assault?

LOL! You mean all those silly outlandish debunked stories? You're so gullible. You Trust Bill Clinton with real accusers who are around today giving their testimony, verses the druggies even the tabloids don't believe.

In pure hypocrisy, the liberals tried to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Their plan didn't work, its that simple. But now they continue to focus on sexism and division.

A good idea might be to remind them of their consolation prize. Trump hired a woman who was the first female campaign manager to win a presidential election.

Why doesn't anybody look at what happened to men? In 2008, it was +1 Obama, in 2012, it was +7 Romney, now it's +12 Trump. Welcome back, gender gap.
