Trump Is Not an 'Insurrectionist' By Larry Elder

I believe he is using the same semantics Cheney used when she said Trump never ordered the national guard into Washington, DC.
Simply because he did not.

My understanding is local officials must make the request and POTUS approves. Absent the local request, POTUS is limited in ordering national guard troops into areas by federal law.
The District of Columbia is not a state, but if federally-controlled. There is no state authority to undermine. Moreover, the Presidents in the 1960s sent the National Guard to states — without request or local approval — to enforce civil rights rulings and integration orders.

The Insurrection Act of 1807 is at play here.

Trump gave pre-approval should the local request be made. It was Polosi and the Mayor of DC that failed to request national guard.

I believe Trump did everything he could do under federal law to make the troops available for January 6.
I’m sure you believe that, but he did not. Neither did he respond the repeated and insistent requests from lawmakers and other officials once the attack of the Capitol began. Vice President Pence was the only one in the Executive Branch who was responsive to the crisis. Trump watched everything play out on TV in the private executive dining room and made phone calls to Rudy Giuliani and other persons on his “Stop the Steal”(sic) team. He did not lift a finger to stop the attack since it was apparently exactly what he wanted.

If he had ordered troops into DC without local request, no doubt the Dems and the media would now be accusing him of violating federal law and attempting to use the US military to overthrow the election.
That’s some twisted logic. If he protected the process that ensured that the electoral votes were counted and Biden was confirmed as President, you think the scary and evil Democrats would attack him for it?

Weird.

That’s similar to the allegations that Biden supporters attacked the Capitol to prevent Biden from being certified as President. It doesn’t make a bit of sense in terms of motivation. It only makes “sense” as a slur against Democrats.

Speaker Pelosi and Mayor of DC had the authority to request national guard and did not Trump was limited by federal law in deploying troops. Trump made the troops available, Pelosi and Bowser were distrustful of our military as most radical Dems are..

Please remember the way the Dems attacked the military as being full of right wing extremists. Please remember Pelosi seeking out the Sec of Defense to get assurance the military would not be used by Trump to overthrow the government.

Please remember how Dems in the cities being destroyed by rioting during 2020 refused Trumps repeated offers to send in national guard to restore order.

For the Dems to now be accusing Trump of doing something improper by not sending in troops is an attempt to rewrite history to cover up the consequences of their own radical beliefs and policies.

peace to you

yeah, most Americans know there was fraud, I think even the 1/6 Democrats and RINOs know it, too - if a senile career politician with a shady past can sit in his basement and get 81 million votes, there would no reason to try to disqualify Trump from running again. They are scared to death of the possibility of Trump running again.

1/6 Commission = Soviet Union show trial. There was also a riot at Trump's inauguration, but nobody cares about that. Stupid political stunt, chomping at the bit here to vote one of these RINOs that voted to establish this sham commission out this very week. Trump has the right to think his last election was stolen, the Democrats are still crying over 2000 and 2016. Orange man no go away. but I sure hope Jaime does.

By M.B. Mathews

“I recently wrote a column about why I believed Trump should not run in 2024. I was wrong. I allowed my distaste for Trump’s personality to override his virtues, which are considerable. Some people want Trump without his vices. I was among them -- until yesterday, when I watched and listened to Tom Klingenstein’s speech titled “Trump’s virtues.” It was masterful and shamed me that I did not make the distinction between Trump's character and his virtues, the former being deeply flawed, the latter being almost perfect. I need to man up in my defense of the former President's virtues. The speech was among the most pointed I have heard and deserves some exposure. Klingenstein says:

Other Republicans say some version of “I like Trump policies but I don’t like the rest of him.” This gets it almost backwards. Although Trump advanced many important policies, it is the 'rest of him' that contains the virtue that inspires the movement… Trump was born for the current crisis, a life and death struggle against a totalitarian enemy I call woke communism... that control all the cultural and economic powers in America…

[Trump] revealed, not caused, the divide in this country. In war, you must make a stand… Trump is a manly man... traditional manhood, even when flawed, is absolutely essential… Trump plays to win... There are no clean hands in a fistfight…Trump is unreservedly, unquestionably pro-America… Trump is a refreshing break from the guilt and self-loathing that marks our age…

It is anti-Americanism that makes so many of us very angry: The Left have trashed America's Founding and her history to the point where some believe it virtuous to hate America. Rather than advocating forgiveness for sins, the Left are advocating hair shirts, self-flagellation, and perpetual guilt. It is un-American and certainly un-Christian.

Trump thinks we can vanquish all comers if we just put our minds to it, and he's right… Courage never demands perfection… Trump over and over said exactly what political correctness prohibits one from saying... Trump said Haiti is a shithole and that representative Maxine Waters has a low IQ. These were not racist lies. They were uncouth, politically incorrect observations that most of us would agree with but would not dare say.

In 2016, we loved Trump for his outspokenness. But many seem to have changed their minds without cause; Trump is the same today as he was before he was elected. The very things we disdain today are the things that made him the man for our time.

From morning to night, we were told that Trump is a racist. But endless repetition does not make it true. It isn’t. Trump’s contempt for political correctness showed patriotic Americans that its ever-tightening grip could be loosened... It is difficult to overestimate the significance of Trump’s fight against political correctness, a fight which most Republicans are reluctant to engage… Trump treated the woke media with the same contempt he treated political correctness, provoking their outrage and revealing their utter corruption... it must be defeated.

I take back my unwillingness to engage Trump on his own terms. It is the Left, not we, who are politically correct. They are the ones restricting speech, cancelling and censoring, not we on the Right.

Unlike most politicians, when Trump sees a problem, he goes out and fixes it. He fixed our porous borders. He moved our Israeli embassy to Jerusalem after decades of inaction. He eliminated hate-America critical race theory in his administrative agency. He developed a vaccine in record time. He achieved energy independence and much, much more.

His accomplishments far outweigh his personality quirks. No other president did so much in so little time.

Trump smoked rats out of hiding places. Because of Trump we know our intelligence agencies are corrupt. We know also that the mainstream media is not just biased, that it is the propaganda arm of the Democratic party.

Had it not been for the vehement and irrational hatred of Trump, we never would have discovered that our own security and intelligence structures are compromised. I blame #NeverTrumpers for corrupting these Agencies. This unprecedented breach of the very security of this nation is unprecedented and deeply dangerous, leaving us open to the espionage of courtesans who prey on politicians who think with their private parts.

A large part of Trump’s appeal was that he was a bona fide outsider. He distrusted the experts who believe they knew better than the average American how to run the country. This distrust was appealing to Trump’s base who believed, and with good reason, that is the experts who created the despotic mess in which we find ourselves.

We always knew but never had anyone champion that we, not the Swamp, knew better how to manage our money, our time, our personal lives, our resources and our families. In their authoritarian mindsets, the Left wanted to take over all these very personal, uniquely American functions and replace it with governmental overreach. They nearly got their wish, had it not been for COVID's home zoom classes where we found out that very young children are being sexualized, perverted, deliberately alienated from their parents and taught to hate America and white people.

…They know that Republicans will lose all further elections until they get to the bottom of the last one.

This most sensitive area of politics is a disaster. I believe the election was stolen and millions of others do. We now have evidence from many quarters that this is so. It cannot be permitted a repeat or there will be severe repercussions that will dwarf the current ones.

Some will say that Trump is a bad man and that disqualifies him. I do not think Trump is a bad man, but for those who do I remind them that a bad man in some circumstances can be a good president. If you’re dying of thirst and there is only one person offering you water, you accept the water gratefully without much concern for the character of your rescuer.

We wanted Trump not only to fix things; we wanted him to be perfect while doing it. That is unrealistic in the average family, the average relationship, the average business and the average political or cultural milieu. Yet some of us wanted Trump to be perfect enough to invite to tea. He is not that man. But he is the man for our tumultuous times.

This enumeration of Trump’s virtues does not fully capture his uncommon courage and firmness of purpose. Trump is the most towering political figure in living memory… Trump inspired a movement. If properly deployed this movement might challenge the woke-comms, and God willing, save the country.

These very things are what the Left hate, yet it is not their favor we need to care about. They will not embrace anyone on the Republican ticket and certainly not one they cannot bully. We need to stop worrying about acceptance of our candidates by the Left or they will have won.

Republicans, however, should not forget that it is his support and the spirit they embrace that have become the life force of the Republican party. Among the talked-about alternatives to Trump I have not yet seen anyone who possesses or even understands Trump’s virtues. Nor have I seen anyone with his backbone and fortitude. One does not appreciate the strength of relentless gale-force winds until one is in the eye of the storm.

…which is exactly where Trump and we are at this moment. We have to prepare for the gale-force winds we will encounter. To not do this is to ignore the lessons of the recent past and it will be forever to our sorrow to ignore them.

His virtue must be the standard by which we judge other candidates.

DeSantis is certainly one of them.”

Here in wyoming it looks like cheney will not be around much longer. It looks like Hagerman will beat her

This Tuesday, day of reckoning for the lizard. Over twenty points down this late, hello Harriet.

And goodbye Jaime, the RINO finally was unseated by Joe Kent in a jungle primary. So, so far, 7 out of 10 of those "republicans" that voted for the second fake impeachment are g-g-g-gone. Two, one in WA and one in CA, survived their jungle primary, but I think the CA RINO is going to have trouble with the ballot harvesting down there. Defeating Liz will make it 8 out 10, de-RINOing the GOP one RINO at a time. If I wanted a Democrat, I would have voted for one. Now to get rid of all those Senate RINOs, patience, patience...

Have you been in Wyoming for a long time or is that a change (thought you were somewhere else)?

Hagerman won the primary, but that only demonstrates the complete corruption of the Republican Party. She has shown courage and character, unlike almost everyone else in the Republican Party.

I doubt we have heard the last of Cheney. People who make stands for what is true and good will eventually triumph over liars and evil.

Endorsement by the Republican party may be of little consequence to Liz Cheney if she still wishes to run. The Republican Party is cutting its own throat with extreme right wing fanatics taking over in States like Wyoming. The result will be that swing voters simply cannot vote Republican and thus the Democratic Party will win by virtue of the swing voters considering the lesser of two evils.
Now, you hard core conservatives on this board won't even consider this as you don't believe your actions are making the Republican Party irrelevant in US politics. You see yourself as morally correct and thus uncompromising. Keep it up. You will keep pushing our society further and further to the left as society chooses to ignore you.

Trump is a narcissistic Machiavellian. His virtues change with the group he is courting. The blindness of right wing Christians to Trump's game is fascinating to watch.

Harriet didn't just win the primary, she stomped her. And, yes, there can be a future in politics for Lizzie, but it would have to be a limited one and would involve relocation to a RINO friendly state . I would advise Maryland, and that's close to her precious swamp to boot.

Her concession speech was awful, notice she said nada about the disastrous POTUS and his Congress, just swiped at Donal Trump and his supporters while in the middle of the most Trump-friendly state in the country. Tone-deaf as all TDS sufferers are, and if you think you can reason with them, you can't. They thrive on their hatred of that one person, and are obsessed with him. Ahab and the great white whale for the literary nuts comes to mind.

Or she could do the Morning Joe thing after the dead intern. the left loves their RINOs unless one of them is up against their own. I really don't care, there will be NO Clinton, Bush, Cheney in office a year from now. Liz was a RINO princess and now has all the free time to go hunting with daddy.

It’s corruption because folks like Kevin Hawley (who initially recognized January 6th for what it was and wanted Trump to resign) and Jim Jordan deceive rank & file Republicans to support Trump for the sake of their careers instead of the sake of the nation. The Republican Party lies to its own voters and perpetuates the Trump personality cult for their own gain.

No doubt Cheney will move directly into a high paying media job as another “conservative” that will agree with the libs that all repubs are liars and evil.
I have never heard anyone claim that ‘all Republicans are liars’ except for Republicans who allege that their political enemies make the claim.

Your above statement about what “libs” claim is a perfect example of how muddled and corrupted the thinking of the Republican electorate has become. You assume the worst and then believe the worst. Your belief is not based in reality. That’s called a delusion.

Cheney gave an interview after losing the primary. She stated she has formed a non-profit whose sole purpose is to keep Trump from becoming POTUS again.

She should immediately resign from the Jan 6 committee. She has revealed her personal bias. She has no intention of pursuing truth.

I have not “assumed” the worst. I have witnessed the worst over the past several years. I saw the FBI use dem propaganda to attempt to stop the Trump campaign prior to election in 2016 and undermine his administration afterward. They lied in fisa warrant application. They falsified documents.

The Jan 6 committee has altered documents and then leaked them to the press. They allowed testimony that was easily disproven concerning Trump assaulting a secret service agent and attempt drive himself to the rally. It didn’t happen.

Cheney has proven herself to be untrustworthy and her constituents know it and have rejected her forthwith.

That is not being delusional. That is being observant.

Peace to you

So, you think you are speaking for God concerning Trump being POTUS again?

He is a Polarizing politician, no doubt. You overestimate how many Americans have TDS, however.

After living under 4 years of Dem control with open borders, out of control crime, out of control inflation, mask mandates, rejecting science for politics, CRT in our schools, sexual grooming of our children in kindergarten, forcing our daughters to compete against men and share bathrooms and locker rooms with men, etc, I suspect you might be surprised how many votes Trump gets if he runs again.

peace to you
