Trump Slammed WHO -- He's Not Alone (NYT)

This article is from the New York Times but is accessible via Yahoo. See below. From the article:

President Donald Trump unleashed a tirade against the World Health Organization on Tuesday, accusing it of acting too slowly to sound the alarm about the coronavirus. It was not the first time in this pandemic that the global health body has faced such criticism.

Government officials, health experts and analysts have in recent weeks raised concerns about how the organization has responded to the outbreak.

...

Here’s why the WHO is coming under attack.

The WHO has not pushed China on early missteps.

When cases of a mysterious viral pneumonia first appeared in Wuhan in December, Chinese health officials silenced whistleblowers and repeatedly played down the severity of the outbreak.

Even as late as mid-January, as the virus spread beyond China’s borders, Chinese officials described it as “preventable and controllable” and said there was no evidence it could be transmitted between humans on a broad scale.

The WHO endorsed the government’s claims, saying in mid-January, for example, that human-to-human transmission had not been proved.

...

Trump Slammed the WHO Over Coronavirus. He's Not Alone.

Trump Slammed the W.H.O. Over Coronavirus. He’s Not Alone.

Not only Trump and many others in this country are criticizing the WHO but several other counties are calling them out. The WHO is playing for the wrong team and needs to be scrapped and a new competent health organization formed. I would imagine at a minimum the leadership of the WHO's days are numbered if not the whole organization. We also, probably more importantly need to beef up our own national health organization...

Exactly. Trump is barely mentioned in the article. The whole point is that the WHO cannot be trusted any more than China, in other words not at all.

And this is a NYT article. I was surprised to see it.

So. Do you trust the NYT to provide factual information or not? You can't pick and choose only those articles that support your ideas.
Personally, I think some valid points are made here about delays in information coming out of China. I do not think that means we should
automatically distrust everything the W.H.O. says or does. It seems to me that the current Director General of the W.H.O. is not as strong as the one who headed up that organization during the SARS epidemic. This article says:

"Mr. Huang noted that during the SARS epidemic in 2002 and 2003, which killed more than 700 people worldwide, the W.H.O. pushed the Chinese government to be more transparent by publicly criticizing it for trying to conceal the outbreak."

Sorry to get your hopes up. I posted the article for discussion, not as proof of anything.

I do not trust the NYT to publish the truth, which is why I was surprised to see the article in their publication, and wondered if it got through by mistake. I would certainly not rely solely on an article from the NYT. But as they say, "Even a stopped clock is right twice a day." So maybe this is one of those times.

Whoever told you that was wrong. It's indicative of the general problem of people uncritically accepting articles because of where they appear or who wrote them, or rejecting them for the same reason.

I most certainly can evaluate opinions for their logic and reason, or lack thereof, as well as their underlying assumptions, philosophy, and supposed facts.

And I do reserve the right to agree with whatever is true no matter its source, and contest what is false or unproven. And I won't need your permission to do so.

What I'm talking about is the GENERAL rejection of news sources like the NYT, The Washington Post, NBC, CBS, ABC, etc. as FAKE NEWS.

Your own posts are prime examples of the problem I described, as they are full of propaganda, lies, deception, "fake news." Your comment was indicative of an uncritical approach that amounts to gullibility.

Ultimately, I do not care about the name of the source, publication or author, or any associated credentials, as much as the actual content. I know I have to filter everything, and even be ready to change my opinion.

Perhaps what you are really asking about is a more specific context, namely political news, especially related to Trump. He has called out organizations for their misportrayal of him and his administration, sometimes calling them "Fake News." The accusation obviously does not apply to everything they report on.

I've been around a while, long before Gore invented the Internet, and have noticed a definite political bias in the MSM that has only grown over the years. But nothing before comes close to their relentless, concerted attacks against Trump.

No doubt a big part of that is due to his audacity in calling them out for their deep bias. Always before, they had gotten a free pass in pretending to be fairminded. Not with Trump. He is making them pay dearly and they utterly hate him for it. By doubling down, these peddlers of "fake news" have only proved his point.

WHO is awful, the current leader is worse. They cover for communist China.

That one is going back to ignore, not all of us are retired and can spend all day whining to the moderators. He will bait you.

But, yes, it's not a matter of always believing or never believing. Discretion.
