Trump Told Russians That Firing ‘Nut Job’ Comey Eased Pressure From Investigation

WASHINGTON — President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting.

“I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.”

Mr. Trump added, “I’m not under investigation.”

The conversation, during a May 10 meeting — the day after he fired Mr. Comey — reinforces the notion that Mr. Trump dismissed him primarily because of the bureau’s investigation into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian operatives. Mr. Trump said as much in one televised interview, but the White House has offered changing justifications for the firing.

The White House document that contained Mr. Trump’s comments was based on notes taken from inside the Oval Office and has been circulated as the official account of the meeting. One official read quotations to The Times, and a second official confirmed the broad outlines of the discussion.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, did not dispute the account.

Expect the usual suspects to blame the NYT, the Russians, the 'establishment'... anyone but Trump himself.

I can just imagine how tore up the 4-5 people on here who bend over backwards for Trump would be if a Democrat had made the moves that Trump has.

Its a sad period of time we live in when the vile hatred of a candidate or party consumes someone as badly as it has consumed a few people here.

Remember the sequence:
1. It's Fake News.
2. Liberals are out to get Trump.
3. At least he's not Hillary.
4. Look-ee here at this thing Obama did.

I do not know if I would use the word hatred, but I do think that we are wittinessing Blind Tribalism on this site.

Are you aware of how ironic your statement is? Who on the Conservative, Trump-supporting side side is saying "The Russians did it. The Russians did it." Yes, that's right. None of the Conservative Trump-supporters are into that nonsense --just the MSM and loons on the fringe left.

"Made the moves" is a mystical phrase. Trump has been the subject of an all-out assault by godless folks. It has been unrelenting garbage day in and day out.

My point was 'Blame anyone but Trump'.

How would you characterize the President of the United States saying, "I just fired the nut job director of the FBI"?

I would say :"Indeed, Mr. President." Those who declare that Trump's firing of Comey was the worst thing ever are complete hypocrites when a little earlier they were demanding he be fired and went on to detail how corrupt he was.

You can't reason with anyone who thinks anyone that disapproves of the President's erratic and dangerous actions are godless people.

Its a vast MSM conspiracy, I tell ya.

Another "smoking gun" based on a "document" the New York Times hasn't seen.

They will believe, and publish , any anti Trump story they hear.

"Evidence" isn't needed.

As with most things the opposition press prints about Trump. I'll wait till we see the "document" and find out who wrote it and furnished it.

Otherwise, it's just more innuendo.

Sad indeed that a few hate Trump so badly. For the record I can give you two reasons I have NO use for Democrats:
1. Abortion
2. Gay rights
