Trump's New DACA Policy

I must say I'm pleased with it and pleasantly surprised. In another thread I said I thought Trump would tweet something announcing he was ending DACA and then turn it over to Congress where it would wither and die. I didn't think he would actually end the program himself. And I was challenged on what I would do about DACA.

Here's my reply:
InTheLight said:
Pick a cutoff point where if you entered the country after that date you can no longer renew your DACA status. Or select a cutoff age for these children where they can no longer renew their DACA status. Give them some time to figure out their options. Hopefully, some other solution can be legislated before indiscriminate deportations occur. If not, deport them.

This is basically what the Trump administration is going to do.

Specifically:
1. They announced a rescinding of DACA.
2. They will wind down DACA over the next six months.
3. Congress can step in with legislation if they want.
4. The Department of Homeland Security will no longer accept new applications for DACA status.
5. DHS says those already enrolled in DACA will be able to continue working until their permits expire; those whose permits expire by March 5, 2018 will be permitted to apply for two-year renewals as long as they do so by Oct. 5.
6. New applications and renewal requests already received by DHS before Tuesday will be reviewed and validated on a case-by-case basis
7. If Congress fails to act and work permits begin to expire, dreamers will not be high priorities for deportations — but they would be issued notices to appear at immigration court if they are encountered by federal immigration officers.

I believe this is a sensible and viable way to proceed. Congratulations to the Trump administration.

Trump hide from the cameras and had Sessions make the announcement.

Trump and Sessions have violated everything Christ taught about how we are to treat the alien among us.

Beginning to wonder if Trump isn't going 'art of the deal" on his fellow Republicans in Congress on this one - DACA has stopped cold, and now the ball is in their court again so this will make the GOP Congress show their true cards instead of hiding behind Obama.

Self-inflicted wedge issue for the GOP for sure, the House cried and cried to pass a bill to get rid of DACA, now they're going have to vote on an extension in, what, March or so of next year, next election year?

Remember what Dave Brat to Eric Cantor, Eric was voted out because of his support for amnesty.

I also must give credit where it is due... I didn't think Trump had it in him especially the way he waffled on the issue before election. Sessions must still have some power to bend Trump's ear.

I don't say it often, but let it be known, I am proud of this decision President Trump. Credit where it is due.

That Time Donald Trump Had A Meeting With DREAMers And Said “You Convinced Me” On Immigration

DACA was unconstitutionally implemented by Obama. The constitution means squat to liberals like him.

As long as this republican congress is led by RINOs Ryan and McConnell, nothing constructively conservative will get done.

Two hours ago Trump tweeted:

Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama administration was unable to do). If they can't I will revisit the issue!

What? So Trump wants DACA to be legal? What?

And what's to revisit? If Congress fails to resolve DACA we expect you to uphold immigration laws and put these people on the "OK to deport list."

What is this man doing?

Trump is not our Pastor, but our President whose job is to uphold our Constitution. Today's annoncement does just that as it gives a grace period of 6 months to the DREAMERS and gives the Congress the time to come up with a law that will address the problem. If they don't, then President Trump will end the un-constitutional executive order of his predecessor, Mr. Obama.

In Obama's case it's worse. He is on video over 20 times saying he could not unilaterally chage the law, before he of course then unilatertally changed the law.

I love it when you guys say this. It just shows that you're repeating talking points and have never read the scriptures for yourselves.

When did Christ ever say to let aliens violate the law? When did He ever say that we're to neglect our neighbor in favor of aliens?

Wr are to treat illegal aliens nicely as we deport them back to their own countries.

He will have to revisit the issue. There will have to be some executive guidance in how to proceed. I do hope that congress will for once actually do their job before the six month time limit runs out.

I think it's evident. He's keeping a campaign promise. One he wishes he hadn't made.

If Congress doesn't take action, he will. He's never going to let this particular group be deported.

As hard line as I am, I do not think many at all of them need to be deported. There are plenty who came as adults we can deport. The problem I have is allowing the parents of the "dreamers" to stay because we allow the dreamers to stay. The protection of the adult parents of the "dreamers" must be removed. You can stay here without your parents, or go back with your parents. Your choice.

Thinking about this further in light of Trumps tweet about revisiting the issue, I believe you are correct. He's actually in favor of DACA, but he probably had Jeff Sessions talk him into trying to get it legalized so it would pass Constitutional muster. Then he uses the "rescind DACA" and "let it wind down" terminology along with a six month deadline to goad Congress into action. After six months if Congress hasn't legalized DACA, Trump will remove the application restrictions he set down yesterday and restore Obama's policy.

I'm not sure what Trump thinks he's doing here, supporting DACA would gain him no votes and lose many. He often words his tweets wildly, he is inexact in speech and words to put it mildly.

He could be trying to use DACA as a negotiating chip but there should be no chip. I really hope is not doing the Reagan thing of amnesty in exchange for building a wall/greater border enforcement, the Democrats and RINOs will just make that part toothless again.

Already 15 or more states have sued the federal government over this, they seem to take it as a sign DACA is dead. Simply amazing that Paul Ryan can find all the time in the world to take up this issue, which does nothing for real citizens, but he time to cry over illegal aliens.
