'The Bill of Rights, as you well know, protects Americans' rights — enshrines their right to practice their religion as they see fit and to congregate together to assemble peacefully," Carlson said. "By what authority did you nullify the Bill of Rights in issuing this order? How do you have the power to do that?"

"That's above my pay grade, Tucker," Murphy responded. "I wasn't thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this ... we looked at all the data and the science and it says people have to stay away from each other. That is the best thing we can do to break the back of the curve of this virus, that leads to lower hospitalization and ultimately fatalities."

"Since you are an elected official, a leader in the government, an executive, how do you have the authority to order something that so clearly contravenes the Bill of Rights of the United States – the U.S. Constitution – where do you get the authority to do that?" Carlson asked again

"Well, here's the thing," Murphy answered. "We know we need to stay away from each other, number one. Number two, we do have broad authority within the state. And number three, we would never do that without coordinating, discussing, and hashing it out with the variety of the leaders of the faiths of New Jersey."

The governor said he spoke about the ban with Joseph Cardinal Tobin, the Archbishop of Newark, as well as other leaders of faith. Murphy said Tobin understood his concerns amid the Easter season and agreed that the diocese would not be holding drive-thru Holy Communion or other services in order to protect congregants.

Murphy added that he was not denying anyone the right to worship but that amid the pandemic, "we have to find a different way to worship."

Tucker was great on this with his probing questions. Murphy's answer illustrates clearly why our nation has such problems. Politicians (mostly Democrats) who after taking an oath to defend the Constition completely ignore it as they go about making decisions on various issues the affect us in our daily lives. The man should be removed from office for his dereliction of duty.

I do not see any provision in those Bill if rights nor in Constution to have God given rights nullied in certain times and situations!

Dereliction of duty would have been Chris Christy not Murphy. Christy galavanted around the country campaigning to be president and was radially here. Then there was bridge gate where he attempted to extort money to build stuff in Fort Lee... that blew up in his face. He was a real jag off and people knew it thus ending the opportunity for any republican gubernatorial election again... thusPhil Murphy.

Tobin used to be Archbishop in Indianapolis. He had an Italian youngster living with him until journalist George Neumayr asked him about it. Tobin might have gone to Washington to replace McCarrick if he had not been considered so gay.

Brother, use the word “queer” vs “gay” when describing a homosexual as it is more descriptive. Thanks

Many states have in essence suspended Two of the Bill of Rights.
Yes in order to save lives and stop the spread of the virus. 5 miles down the road a retirement home is stacking them like kindling wood. The whole place is infected. Not having masks and PPE garments didn’t help. That place is a nightmare and NJ is a war zone.

The C.O.T.U.S. guaranteed rights being suspended are O.K. with you? Your Blue State is ill prepared and as a result, you willingly surrender your rights.

Franklin never dealt with a pandemic
He had knowledge of pandemics and knew the history of them and what they could do.
Give up the Constitution for perceived safety. You are quite the Patriot. You can write this down. No matter what we do, 65% of the population will get Covid 19. The only question is when they get it.

To all those thinking Franklin had no knowledge of Pandemics, Franklin was a student of history. 1347. Black Death.

Im sure you are quite right but it matters not. The point of his statement was that if you are willing to give up liberty, no matter the threat or its danger level, then you will neither have it nor deserve it. With liberty and freedom their must also be risks and danger that are tolerated. Snowflakes who are willing to give it up for security might as well go get themselves a king who will coddle and take care of them. At least until every one else money runs out.

And then the King will become a totalitarian dictator. His subjects will be neither free nor safe.
