Turmeric

Lately, I haven't been able to get the bag of turmeric at Walmart, like I always have. Walmart's online site says that they are out of stock.

I was going to buy some online from another site when I read a review from a customer from that site. He said Indian grocers sell lots of turmeric for less than most other dealers. I called one in my area, then went by to get some. His cost was about 2 or 3 dollars less than Walmart and the stuff seems to be more potent than the "Spring Valley" stuff that I would get from Walmart.

I enjoyed talking to the Indian owner who ran the place. He said that everything that he cooks is seasoned with turmeric. He asked me what it is that I use it for, and my mind went blank on me. I just said that I have made it a regular part of my vitamin regimen, but I can't remember why in particular I am doing it.

When I left the store and got in the car, it suddenly came to mind why I use turmeric. It is for mental focus and alzheimer's prevention.

I know it is one of the main ingredients in common yellow mustard and it is often used instead of saffron in yellow rice. Other than that, I don't know of anything I use it for. It is a good nutrient though.

Sounds like you found a new source just in the nick of time. :Wink

This just brings up a thought I've had for years. I have often wondered just how many of our current aches, pains, & system malfunctions of our body is due to a lack of DESIGNED (by God of course) nutrients.

Just how many berries, leaves, stems, roots etc are out there just for the picking, but we don't know about them since we are so "civilized" and are killing ourselves with chemicals that provide our normal, everyday lifestyles???

I'm not at all sure I would change now (I'm 83) anyway, cause I'm set in my ways & functioning reasonably well; do have my problems, but --.

But even so I would still love to know what a modern BIBLICAL DIET would be!

I can't prove anything with regard to health bennefits of turmeric. It does seem to me that whenever I am looking for answers to a concern of mine, I find some glimmer of hope in in a previously over-looked source, and I would like to think that the Almighty One, Himself, had something to do with pointing it out.

I saw a You Tube video of an 84 year old man who said that he was in the latter stages of alzheimers when his family got the idea of feeding him turmeric with black pepper to try and make him better. He said it completely pulled him out of the vegetative state, and now he has to deal with his agitated reflux caused by the turmeric and pepper which is better than dealing with alzheimers.

At the time I saw that video, I was wrestling with the idea of giving up coconut oil, which was also believed to be a alzheimers preventative substance. I gave up the coconut oil.

When I was 40 years old, I had aches in my joints which were almost nauseating at times, and I was wearing copper jewelry, thinking that it might possibly help. I started taking fish oil when I was about 44 for cardio vascular health, not even thinking that it would help my joints. Years later it occured to me that my joints no longer ached and had not ached in a long time.

Like I said, I have no verifiable evidence that my supplements are making my life better. My cadiologist told me that I am just wasting my money by spending it on those supplements, because he believes in prescription meds.

When I was 61, I had a mild heart attack. The l.a.d. artery was 85 percent clogged and needed a stent. My wife was critical of me for taking all of those supplements because I had a heart attack despite all of that. I told her that without all of that stuff, it could have happened earlier in life and may have been more severe. Who knows? Maybe, maybe not.
