Turn Your Back This Fourth of July

In a few days, we will all have an opportunity to peacefully inflict a major psychological blow on the rapidly coalescing police state by the simple but powerful act of refusing to play along with the absurd pantomime on the 4th of July that we live in an even nominally free country – one with the rule of law, an operative Constitution and respect for individual rights. One that isn’t a thugocracy.

We can turn our backs on the flag. Decline to participate when urged to cheer and sing.

No fireworks. No barbeques. We can sit down – and bow our heads.

We can mention the unmentionable: That there is no longer any meaningful limit to the power of the government over our lives. No line beyond which it may not tread. That it lies, spies and tyrannizes.

We can admit to ourselves the shoddy – and frightening – reality bubbling up all around us.

CONTINUE . . .

Agree the country is in a mess but turning our back on the flag - the one symbol that still has some meaning - to me anyway doesn't seem to send the message I would want to send. The flag has nothing to do with the mess.

Thumb your nose at the politicals, send email, phone the dolts in Washington - yep, turn my back on the flag - not likely.

Look closely at the stars on the flag. They are actually small fleur de lis.

And as to the call expressed in the cut-and-paste OP: I fail to see how it would be anything but pointless symbolism that would accomplish nothing but make a few feel self-satisfied.

You'd get more reaction poking a bull with a stick.

...And I haven't even mentioned how utterly disrespectful and unappreciative I think it is.

To what end? How exactly does any of what is suggested look or sound like Jesus? Which kingdom are you living and fighting for?

I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I do have to admit that I'm very conflicted about what my attitude toward the flag should be, given that our government is beginning to look more and more like a Soviet state by the day.

Look closely at all the sheep in this picture, they're actually little sheople! Respectful little sheople.

I think it's utterly disrespectful to pretend the flag stands for something that no longer exists.

Americans Don't Know WHY We Celebrate the 4th of July or WHAT COUNTRY We Declared Independence From! BAAAAAAAA!

As part of a deal signed last week in Washington DC between the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry and FEMA, Russian officials will provide “security at mass events” in the United States, a scenario that won’t sit well with Americans wary of foreign assets operating on US soil.

While you're out there being respectful don't forget to salute the nice Russian soldiers sticking their hands down your pants next time you go to a baseball game or while attending a 4th of July celebration at the football stadium. USA! USA! USA! HOOAAAAAAH!

Can it then be assumed that you will not celebrate the Fourth? Do you plan to publicly protest? Do you plan to display the Flag upside-down in front of your home?

What particularly do you hope to accomplish?

I think that you are all talk.

Amen to that. The flag represents so much more than our current or even previous govts. A lot of braves souls fought and died for this flag. I plan on flying it proudly and honoring those folks.

From the article Poncho referenced-

In addition, the parties approved of U.S.-Russian cooperation in this field in 2013-2014, which envisages exchange of experience including in monitoring and forecasting emergency situations, training of rescuers, development of mine-rescuing and provision of security at mass events.

No mention of placing foreign troops on US soil- it's simply an exchange of experience, at least as the article is written.

I'll be in Washington DC with my video cameras and laptop documenting the protests. I know. Protests? What protests? Right?

As far as flying the flag goes right side up our upside down I think it's downright disrespectful and a low down disgusting insult to every American alive or dead to even own an American flag that says MADE
IN CHINA! My handmade in the USA from 100% hemp fiber Gadsden Flag will be flying over my house.

How about you where are you going to be and what are you going to be doing on the fourth? The NSA, Big Sis, Obama and the British, French and German intelligence agencies need to know . . . to keep you safe from the terrorists Obama and McCain are funding and arming.

Agree and am glad to hear you say so. I expected a different answer based on your OP.

I feel such a connection of brotherhood now...

And the tin foil hat must go...

Actually for the last few years I've been using Reflectix. I get better reception, it keeps my head warmer when I visit my folks in the frozen north country and it's made in the USA!

So, sorry budro but you'll just have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. Information is the key to regaining our freedom.

What I find unsettling is the apparent shift of what we are supposedly celebrating on the 4th of July - from BOTH sides of the policital spectrum.
