TV Preachers

I am very serious about the questions I am going to ask, so please bear with me.

"False Teachers, Heretics, Word Faith, Word of Faith, Name it and Claim it, Lunatic, Nut, False Prophet, Prosperity, Health and Wealth,".....these are just some of the terms used on this board to describe, what seems to be, EVERY preacher who is on TV.

The questions I have are:

(1) In your opinion, are there ANY preachers on TV whose preaching is based on sound, Biblical, good doctrine?

(2) If so, who are they?

(3) Do you think preachers should even be on TV? Is TV an important tool in the spreading of the Gospel and/or the teaching of God's Word?

(4) If you answered "no" to #1, and "yes" to #3, then why (in your opinion) doesn't the SBA (or some other Denomination or Association) get together and put a preacher on TV who WILL teach sound Biblical doctrine?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Certainly there are some very good preachers on the telly. I am not about to name them, but television is just another tool of modernity as was radio a generation ago.

Many cults contain an element of truth and so it is with many preachers. It is this element of truth that attracts the masses, along with sensationalism.

I can't answer why some group doesn't support one program. Perhaps it is because we may tend to represent some aspects of theology or church practice differently.

It is not hard to differentiate all the blow and show preachers from those who tell the truth in God.

Cheers,

Jim

1. YES

2. David Jeremiah, Mack Brunson

3. YES

4. See # 2, though not, as you specifically specify, denominationally sponsored

Re: 2, I'm sure there are others, but just like teens, only the rebellious/extremests make the "headlines".

Doesn't mean that there aren't many more being true to the Scripture; just not as "well known"!

1: None that I've seen. Here in Oz we just seem to get the worst of U.S. imports like Hinn, Copeland, Meyer, et al...Or Aussie copies...

2: n/a

3: Good question...That I don't have a good answer for
Call it a maybe, but I'ld look for something cheaper myself...

4: Related to last Q, my guess is there are cheaper and easier avenues. (Boy I sound like a taxi driver some times... ;) )

The best two that we get on television here are Charles Stanley of First Baptist Atlanta and D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Presbyterian. Both are excellent preachers of sound orthodox Christianity.

My favorite Bible teachers on the radio are Steve Brown of Key Life and Tony Evans of the Urban Alternative. While they are very different, both are good Bible teachers.

(3) Fine by me.

If bad tv-preachers are getting you down just remember the following.

You see the face on the tv screen
Coming at you every sunday
See that face on the billboard
That man is me
On the cover of the magazine
There’s no question why I’m smiling
You buy a piece of paradise
You buy a piece of me
I’ll get you everything you wanted
I’ll get you everything you need
Don’t need to believe in hereafter
Just believe in me
Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows I’m right
I’ve been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I’m right
And he’s been telling me
Everything is alright
I believe in the family
With my ever loving wife beside me
But she don’t know about my girlfriend
Or the man I met last night
Do you believe in god
Cos that’s what I’m selling
And if you wanna get to heaven
I’ll see you right
You won’t even have to leave your house
Or get outta your chair
You don’t even have to touch that dial
Cos I’m everywhere
And jesus he knows me
And he knows I’m right
I’ve been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I’m right
Well he’s been telling me
Everything’s gonna be alright
Won’t find me practising what I’m preaching
Won’t find me making no sacrifice
But I can get you a pocketful of miracles
If you promise to be good, try to be nice
God will take good care of you
Just do as I say, don’t do as I do
I’m counting my blessings,
I’ve found true happiness
Cos I’m getting richer, day by day
You can find me in the phone book,
Just call my toll free number
You can do it anyway you want
Just do it right away
There’ll be no doubt in your mind
You’ll believe everything I’m saying
If you wanna get closer to him
Get on your knees and start paying
Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows I’m right
I’ve been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I’m right
Well he’s been telling me
Everything’s gonna be alright, alright
Jesus he knows me
Jesus he knows me, you know...

I have to add Rod Parsley to my list.
What a wonderful preacher.
I have to admit, at one time God used Rod Parsley to show me and teach me many things that I needed to know. But now, I don't know, he's kind of like Benny Hinn in the fact that I just don't like his style, and I don't like watching him anymore. I do admire what he's trying to to with the Center for Moral Clarity , though.

We as a nation could experience a revival or we could face serious judgement from God. I am glad that Rod Parsley is preaching as the Prophet that said "cry aloud spare not".

The other night my 25-year-old daughter was up late and watched Joel Osteen preach. Imagine my joy when she told me how angry he had made her - she was mad that he went on about how we should let the Spirit work through us and such, and then came THIS CLOSE to a place where he should have made an invitation to the viewers to receive Christ, and didn't! She said "He could've had 'em, but he let 'em go!" Praise God she understands!

I'm not sure I understand. Was she upset because he didn't make the invitation at a certain point before the end of his message; or that he left it until the very end?

I've only seen Osteen's show 4-5 times; but each time it has ended with him making an invitation & then leading viewers in a sinner's prayer.

Because he didn't make it seem like that was necessary to have what he was talking about happen. She said there was a quick "tack-on" at the end, but if you hadn't heard the Gospel before you might not make the connection.

When I get to heaven, if I meet one person who truly got saved because they said Joel's "magic words", I'll be totally shocked.

I do however like the fact that Osteen includes "repentance" in the prayer.

Yes, there several reasobly good ones, and a few really good ones.
If so, who are they?

I'd rather not name them. There are some here who will likely question my faith, beliefs, and/or salvation if I do.
Do you think preachers should even be on TV?

If they want to, and can make it work, then sure. If they don't want to, then they don't have to.
Is TV an important tool in the spreading of the Gospel and/or the teaching of God's Word?

It can be. But it isn't in all cases, nor does it need to be in all cases.

Do like I did. Name dominee Arie van der Veer. The loons around here who like to question people's salvation can't understand a word he says. That ought to slow them down. ;)
