Democrats threaten to block their own bill after finding abortion language
Washington Examiner
By Susan FerrechioPublished March 11, 2015

Senate Democrats are fuming over abortion language inserted into a bipartisan human trafficking bill that they failed to notice before voting to move the bill to the floor.

Democrats are now threatening to block the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, which cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 2 by a unanimous vote and is now being debated before the full Senate.

At 68 pages, the bill is relatively brief by the standards of legislation. But it was only after praising the bill that Democrats discovered language on page 50 that they say will keep them from voting for passage on the Senate floor.

The provision, named after the late Rep. Henry Hyde, R-Ill., encodes into law a prohibition of the use of federal restitution funding — money provided to assist victims — to pay for abortion.

Harry Reid is everything that you hate about Mormonism. He is a true son of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, both of whom were total liars and crooks.

I got a good dose of Mormons last summer when I spent 2 weeks in rural Utah. In general very rude, disrespectful people to outsiders. Anyway, the Democrats do promote abortion. They are proactive. That is a fact. Blood of the innocent drips off their hands. So does it with Republicans on the federal level. They do not promote it. They talk about it at election time then do nothing for four or six years. There have been periods of time since 1973 when there was a Republican President, Republican Congress, and conservative Supreme Court and nothing was done to stop it. Some minor measures were passed in the Senate, but never anything to stop the murder.

So the bottom line is the Democrats have blood of the innocent dripping off their hands, and Republicans exchange the blood of the innocent as they pander for votes. I dare any poster on this board to declare the Republican Party is close or closer to a Holy God.

So the GOP thought has poisoned a bill that should have had unanimous support. Now they have inserted a poison pill and people will continue to suffer. Way to go GOP, still at war against helping people. I guess it only shows the GOP supports trafficking of women and children. Why would anyone poison such needed legislation?

Please note that CTB, who repeatedly claims that he does NOT support abortion, refers to a provision against federal funding of abortion as "poison."

When the life of the unborn children being saved is seen as poison even among those who call themselves Christians we have a major problem. Christians should be fighting for this not calling it poison.

Well noted and is contrary to the position that he does not support abortion.

Using your logic that means you are in favor of human trafficking. Like I have said, a lot of you folk are pro-birth, but not pro-life.

The problem was created by the GOP. There was a perfectly good bill attacking human trafficking. There was bipartisan support for the bill. It would have pass with no problem and Obama would have signed it into law.

Then GOP congressmen quietly added a clause on abortion. That poisoned the bill for many and now the anti-trafficking bill is dead. Well done GOP. You just killed a bill that everyone was in favor of.

Why not enter two clean bills. One on abortion and one on anti-trafficking and let them pass or fail on their own merits?

I would like to read more about your experiences with the Mormons. Romney was sort of the exception as he was cordial and friendly but I thought that it was terrible that he took his wife out of the Episcopal Church and put her in the Mormon church. The 19th century history of Mormonism is dark, although they did send men to California during the trek to Utah. Harry Reid is seldom cordial, in my opinion.

As for the GOP and abortion, Reagan did put a plank in the GOP platform calling for an amendment to protect the life of the unborn child. However, nothing ever gets done. The pro-life community is split between abortion in case of rape, incest, or life of the mother and no abortions ever, in my opinion.

You are pathetic Ceabtownboy! You are sufficiently intelligent to know that democrats will filibuster any bill that restricts abortion in any way. The blood that drips off the abortionists hands drips off your hands yet you continue that "holier than thou pious attitude"!

You have as much credibility when you claim you are against abortion as Kermit Gosnell the Philadelphia Abortionist Accused of Killing Babies With Scissors, who was Charged With 8 Murders, but was guilty of hundreds. May he receive his just deserts in prison! God will determine what this slaughterer of the unborn will receive in eternity.

Why does a bill about human trafficking include a provision about abortion anyhow?

Kinda weird but I suppose somebody had a reason.

You are wrong about the Republicans in Congress. From 1973 until 1995 the democrats controlled the House. During that time there were Republican presidents and Republicans controlled the Senate but never with a filibuster proof majority but nothing could have passed the House anyhow.

When the Republicans took over the House in 1995 as well as the Senate they passed a bill eliminating Partial Birth Abortion. This procedure was so gruesome that it got enough democrat support to pass Congress. The bill was actually passed twice and vetoed by that misogynist Bill Clinton twice! When Bush was elected president the Republican Congress again passed the bill and it was signed into law by President Bush.

The Republicans have not had a filibuster proof Senate along with a Republican president and House since Roe v Wade was handed down by the 7 black robed baby killers in the Supreme Court. It will take at least 60 pro-life Senators, a pro life House, and a pro-life President to get any meaningful legislation restricting abortion on the Federal level. As far as I know there is only one pro-life democrat in the Senate.

I believe that the Supreme Court has had the opportunity to overturn Roe v Wade I believe but they only have four votes; that is not enough.

So you are wrong when you say the "Republicans exchange the blood of the innocent as they pander for votes". Don't be like Crabtownboy. I am not going to hang any wreaths around the neck of Republican politicians but it takes 60 pro-life votes in the Senate plus a pro-life House and a pro-life president to pass any meaningful restrictions on abortion; or at least 5 votes in the Supreme Court. More than that it takes the so-called Christians in this country to quit acting like Crabbie and make enough noise to stop this slaughter.

Awww. You can't stand that this party you hold so dear is just as culpable for abortion as is in your words "the party of death".

Wow. You're also a member of a party of death.

Scandalous. The horror.

The blood of 55 million is on the hands of the GOP toooooooooo.

Guess that leaves no room for your feigned righteous indignation.

You are as pathetic as Crabbie, a true clone. You act so pious talking about all the Muslims going to hell but could care less about the slaughter of 55 million unborn children. Sick! Sick!

You are entirely too old to be so bitter. I equally care about the 55 million unborn and the billion plus already born.

You on the other hand don't like Muslims and believe you can't do anything for them.

So like I said, stop trying to feign that you care for the unborn when you have not an iota of compassion in you for the eternities of those who have already passed out of the womb.

The hypocrisy stinks all the way to heaven.

You act like no liberal has ever done the exact same trick. This nonsense happens all the time in Washington. One congressman can't get what he wants through his own actions, so he coattails another bill in order to get his tiny piece of legislation passed. Happens everyday. On some occasions, either side is able to use such maneuvering to attack the opposition. It's disgusting, but it's also politics as usual.

And I believe such activity should be illegal!

But that is not the topic of this thread. This is about the GOP effectively killing an anti-human trafficking bill that should have sailed through both houses and signed into law. I see no excuse for this.

But we are not members of the party of death and misery for the living as you are. Why do you not mind aiding and supporting a party that does not mind harming the innocents who are living?

As you like to say, "Don't be so self-righteous.
