What is our responsibility to them ? As individuals, then, as a nation.
As individuals, towards the country. Like in my case, I believe scripture commands me, individually, to pray for Israel to turn to Christ.
But I see nowhere in scripture where we are to financially support them, over other nations. And I see nowhere in scripture where we are commanded to protect them from other nations. It seems when the Bible mentions Israel, it is talking to Israel.
I think a Christian who tells me I have to vote to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuke, in order to protect Israel would have a hard time backing it up with scripture. Shouldn't this be left to Israel ?
We have no inherent responsibility to them as a nation.
Though they are a strategic partner in that difficult region, one can argue (quite successfully) that our continued advocacy for Israel has hurt relations mor than it has helped them with other countries.
Good question.
What is our responsibility to them ? As individuals, then, as a nation.
I agree, the same way I should pray for the people of Ireland, Germany, or France to turn to Christ.
Christ won't be ruling from France, or any where else.

I don't see the connection between the millennial reign and the current political state of Israel.
Well they are the descendants of the Israelites that Moses brought out of Egypt. They are the heirs to the promised land that they now occupy, and they will turn to faith in the Messiah according to Romans 11:26.
The US may or may not have an obligation to help Israel but we do well to not cause them harm – Zechariah 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
What evidence do we have that this political state is the same group to whom God gave the Abrahamic Covenant?
Well they are the descendents and there is DNA evidence:
"With a new technique based on the male or Y chromosome, biologists have traced the diaspora of Jewish populations from the dispersals that began in 586 B.C. to the modern communities of Europe and the Middle East...The analysis provides genetic witness that these communities have, to a remarkable extent, retained their biological identity separate from their host populations, evidence of relatively little intermarriage or conversion into Judaism over the centuries."
This speaks of Jews of all nations, not the political state that calls itself Israel.
What evidence do we have that this political state is the same group to whom God gave the Abrahamic Covenant?
Is the state of Israel, founded in 1948, the apple of God's eye?
Prove there is a distinction
Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Since God made an everlasting covenant with the Jews, His promises do not expire.
'The Jews' are not necessarily synonymous with the present political state of Israel. Just because they call themselves doesn't make it so.
