Unions Seek Government Help to Survive

Observations over many years of watching union members who are friends and family, that have grossly distorted viewpoints over their relationship with their employers. They, to a man, are concerned with "what's in it for me" and not, "what can I do to help my employer be successful." I've worked under both, and learned to hate unions.

I believe in a free market, the workers and management should have a cordial, free exchange of ideas. Under this system, the better the worker facilitates the accomplishment of his designated task, the better the Co. will prosper and the better the worker will be treated.

One of the best jobs I ever had was in a plywood mill in the 70's. No union, and the place was bristling with innovative procedures and in house designed equipment and machinery, and it was the encouragement of management for the free exchange of ideas that made that mill a model that had people from all over the world visiting.

You can keep your Union and I'll work elsewhere. Unions foster greed and avarice. And that is sin.

I really don't understand how secret ballots are unfair to unions and why they want to do away with them.

With the union's reputation for browbeating, the secret ballot is the only real protection for employees who are against unionization.

And I have no(NO) positive experience with unions. I am aware that there are new working arrangements between the two parties, modeled after the Japanese, that some say works well, but I have no first hand knowledge of it.

I have been in the manufacturing world for over 30 years as a worker and as a Superviser. I have always found that an employer will always do what they can to avoid losing a good employee. It would be bad business. I have never belonged to a union and have always managed to make a pretty good living without their help. The company I work for now is unionized but being in a "right to work" state (Fla.) I choose not to join. Now I will admit that we do owe much to their work in the past. (8 hour day, wekends off etc.) But today it seems that the union is only there to protect the lazy malingerer. My best friend is a technician for the US Post Office in Phila, Pa. and some of the stories he tells me of how the union protects some of its more worthless employees astounds me.

Fair share that goes to what? The latest Democratic nominee. The latest supporter of murdering unborn children. This is where a good portion of union monies go whether you support these candidates and issues or not. It is all funneled through the AFL-CIO.

Florida is a right to work state. That makes it right.

I have considerable experience reading your posts, which say a great deal about you. You seem to be an American hating liberal democrat, though I believe you stated you were an independent, who sometimes remembers he's supposed to reflect Christian principals. But your posts betray the latter.

It is not the direct criteria. Regardless of the criteria the union lobby money ends up in the hands of such murderers.

It is absolutely right. Non union workser may get some of the same work conditions but they do not get direct representation during differences with the employer.

I, sir, am twice the conservative you will ever be. If you want to compare military service, voting records, work records, ministries involved in, just let me know. Name calling is what you are reduced to, as you never lifted a finger for this nation, and while I am not sure of your church, ministries, or work, your posts are hallow, {snip}.

I'm sure you will make a fine "company man," as you called it.

In the past, many years ago, I worked at two union shops. I now work at a non-union shop. Although I like my current employer and we get along great, My compensation doesn't have anywhere near the buying power now that I did back then.

Please understand that I don't put all of the blame on the fact that my present employer is not union for the conditions in our industry. In fact, I don't care if my employer is union or not, but I think they should treat their employees fairly and pay them a fair wage for a fair day's work.

I believe treaties such as NAFTA have done more to adversely affect the middle-class American worker than the reduction in union membership, and I'm sure it also affects many small and medium size businesses as well.
