University of Missouri president resigns amid protests by student-athletes

The University of Missouri canceled all football activities on Sunday, hours after coach Gary Pinkel tweeted out support of his players, who refused to practice or play until school president Tim Wolfe is "no longer in office."

The issue centers on what some Missouri students believe is a slow and inconsequential response to some racially motivated incidents on the Columbia campus. One student is on a hunger strike. Others are camping out on Carnahan Quadrangle.

Wolfe announced that he was resigning on Monday morning.

That was quick.

That was quick.

Goes to show you what an effective economic boycott (which is essentially what shutting down the football program is) does to speed the "decision making process." Wolfe basically trivialized complaints of racism and then blamed the victims. Nasty.

The situation at the U of Missouri was obviously bad, but this was a very well orchestrated protest. I do not defend the University President, but lets see where it moves next.

A big problem in situations like this is too many times a surge of "assumed power" settles like a fog on the victors, and they are much more likely to flex their muscles at even a hint of the next "discrimination" episode.
Mob power does have it's followers, and devoted they are!!

For a well run college, this is easy to take care of...suspend the scholarships of the players that refuse to suit up. End of story.

Yes, at a school that pays the President 500K a year and the Head coach $4 million a year. That's totally going to happen. LOL.

You obviously don't understand the money involved in SEC football Carpro.

Could be. But I understand a well run university would not allow themselves to be blackmailed by student athletes and I understand that takes having a firm set of principles, which obviously university management were entirely lacking.

Okay, so to recap you vote my post dumb while acknowledging you don't understand the power of collegiate football in an SEC conference.

Now you are going to argue the removal of the President by making a case for how poorly the University is run. I don't know where we go from here.

I mean it almost sounds like you are advocating for the removal of the President for lack of principles and calling the university poorly run while simultaneously complaining about the students wanting the same thing.

He REALLY doesn't understand college football, especially SEC football. Columbia sees hundreds of millions of dollars pumped into it because of football. If this were a company with a CEO ignoring the complaints of it's white employees at the hands of its black employees playing the knock out game on them, but the CEO just said "Oh well, fend for yourselves", he might understand that no one was blackmailed. Just doing what needs to be done.

Your post wasn't meant for a response, but to riducule. So it was marked dumb. If you want to be cute, try it somewhere else.

Wasn't trying to be cute but simply wanted to assert the absurdity of your statement at an SEC school. However, you did acknowledge that you might be wrong on that account which I can respect and move on from. I probably could have handled that one with a little more diplomacy and I admit our history probably played a part in that. I'll try to better. You weren't that bad in this exchange so this one is on me.

Yep, i figured. Anything George Soros touches is evil. And per tonight's news, this is spreading across the US courtesy of our dear progressive brothers. There's an agenda at work here.
