Unsound Doctrine

Scripture tells us "false teachers" will secretly introduce destructive heresies. Some of us will be ensnared and believe some of these teachings contrary to sound doctrine. How can we prevent or minimize these misadventures?

First, some say we do not need to study God's word for ourselves because we are not qualified to differ from the profession translators or teachers of God's word. That view is unsound doctrine.

Second, we are to test the teachers as some may be false prophets, appealing to our desires rather than the truth.

Third, as obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance. Be open to the possibility that our views formulated during our immaturity might miss the mark.

God loved humanity is this way, He gave His uniquely divine Son, so that everyone believing into Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

What other groups seek to hear one point of view and censor or cut off discussion of other points of view?

Jesus was not the "only human son." But Jesus was the uniquely divine (God incarnate) Son.

The word "slave" carries baggage as the first picture that may pop into our minds is an enslaved black person. The person was either kidnapped or born into enslavement. The pictured condition is involuntary. However, scripture refers to those placed into Christ and born anew as "slaves of Christ." We belong to Him.

In Ephesians 6:5, the instruction is addressed to slaves, and the instruction is to be obedient to the master. To avoid endorsing forced enslavement as the enslaved blacks in America, the word is translated "servant" by the KJV and "bondservant" (i.e. voluntary slave) by the NKJV.

During and before the civil war, some Pastors within the slave holding culture of the south, taught that scripture advocates enslavement of "inferior" people.

This of course was unsound doctrine. And one of the lessons seems to me to be ambiguous words (voluntary or involuntarily slaves) pose a hazard to the ministry of Christ. The ear tickler professionals use these kinds of ambiguities to tell the audience what they like to hear, rather than the truth.
