US loses to Greece

I didn't know there was any disagreement over that. The U.S. is the best in the world at baseball. To fail to admit that is just plum silly. I would gladly place the top 25 American players in MLB against any other team in the world in a best of seven format with full confidence that the American team would win.

 

U.S. basketball is certainly the best in the world. I would gladly put a team of the twelve best American players in the NBA against any other team in the world in a best of seven format with full confidence that the U.S team would win.

Yeah, the Greek team won a game against even the team that we sent overseas this year. But I am confident that even the team we sent would win a best of seven series against the Greek team.

 

Ahh, I see. You didn't say we were talking about a best of seven series. The context of the discussion was the World Championships and the Olympics, which is a single-elimination tournament, not a best of seven series. If you wanted to talk a best of seven series, then perhaps you should have mentioned that in the first place.

 

Baseball is very different. Superiority only shows itself over a long season. If you the teams play a 162 game schedule against each other, I have no doubt the US or the Domincan Republic would come out on top. In a short series or one game anyone can win.
