Are you suggesting that the number of terrorist sucide bombings is not down[/d] since the U.S. military surge? Where's the data to support that idea?

 

They have stood up a over 130 battalions, and all the recent fighting has been led primarily by the Iraq army. Coaltion troops are in a secondary role at this point. Sure, there will be suicide bombings for some years to come. But Iraq troops are now dealing with it themselves.

And hence my comment above that we forced A-Q to fight in his own back yard. About 10% of A-Q in Iraq were foreigners, including the leadership, with local misfits enlisted to do the dirty work. They have thrown alot of resources into this fight and had much of it chewed up.

Yes I know that southern Iraq is predominantly Shia. Shia militias controlled the port city Basra, among others, and they no longer hold it due to the central government's offensive there. If they regroup they will not have popular support at this time.

They weren't there before we invaded.

Do you really think that a predominantly Shia population will rise up against other Shiites? Do you understand that these people are the true believers in Shia Islam?

Possibly. It depends on what the next administration does and what the Iraq government wants to do. At any rate, it will be on a much smaller scale, and in a supporting role. The surge troops have already returned home btw.
