We KNOW that leaves are red, yellow, orange, etc, but we CANNOT SEE the color because of the production of chlorophyl that makes them all "appear" green. When production stops in the fall, the real colors show forth.

Now, you might NOT KNOW that in the same way, the sun is really green, but because red, yellow and orange are brighter and more powerful, we only see these outward colors.

If your kids paints a sun up in the sky that is green, sign him up in MENSA. :D

Before becoming country stars, Roy Acuff, Conway Twitty, Charlie Pride and Lee Greenwood were all professional baseball players.

Acuff with the Philadelphia A's, Twitty with the Philadelphia Phillies' farm system, Pride with the Cardinals and Greenwood with the Dodgers.

In addition, Toby Keith was a defensive tackle for the Oklahoma Outlaws of the old USFL.

Croatia was the first country to recognize the United States in 1776.

SMERSH, the Soviet spy organization made familiar by James Bond creator, Ian Fleming, was a real KGB department. Named after its motto SMERT SHpionen ('Death to Spies'), SMERSH had the job of eliminating enemies of the Soviet Union who lived abroad. Its most important victim was Leon Trotsky, the former Bolshevik leader in the 1917 Revolution, who was murdered in Mexico in 1940. Source: "Reader's Digest Book of Facts"

The Lord's Prayer is 66 words, the Gettysburg Address is 286 words, there are 1,322 words in the Declaration of Independence, but government regulations on the sale of cabbage total 26,911 words.

All U.S. States except Hawaii have freight trains. Hawaii used to have freight trains, but now only offers passenger rail service.

The Andromeda galaxy is the most distant object visible to the naked eye. It is about 12 billion billion miles away.

The 1967 blockbuster movie, In the Heat of the Night, set in Sparta, MS, was filmed in Sparta, IL. The late 80s-early 90s TV version of this movie, also set in Sparta, MS, was filmed in Hammond, LA, for its first season and Covington, GA, for the duration of its air time.

BTW, there is really a town named Sparta in Mississippi(between Starkville and Pontotoc). The "Sparta" of the ITHOTN TV show appears to be somewhere between Jackson and Meridian.

Before he was governor of Pennsylvania, while he was still an assistant D.A. in Phildelphia, Ed Rendell became a local hero by nailing visiting Dallas Cowboy's coach, Jimmy Johnson in the head with an iceball.

Rendell, who was somewhat inebriated at the time, threw the snow/ice ball on a dare from a popular local radio morning show host.

A knowledgable sports fan, Governor Rendell now co-hosts the Philadelphia Eagles' "Post Game Live" show on local TV.

Gloucester City, N.J. (next to Mt. Ephraim), has more saloons, per capita, than any other city in the U.S.

    Bad career moves:

The original choice for the lead in Casblanca was Ronald Reagan. He turned it down.

The original choice for Captain Kirk was Russel Johnson. He turned down the role because he was afraid of being typecast.

The original choice for Indiana Jones was Tom Selleck. He was unable to take the role because of contractual obligations.

Star Trek: The Next Generation" has made over $500,000,000 in syndication and merchandising.

Star Trek: ...The transporter effect is accomplished as follows:
    1) Fill a canister with water. Add glitter and shine a light through it. Stir briskly and tape.
    2) Film the scene, first with the actor, then without. (Or vice versa)
    3) Transfer the scene to tape, and use video technology to matte the glitter over the actor.
    4) Use a video wipe to 'streak down' the glitter.

The original captain of Star Trek's starship 'Enterprise' was Jeffrey Hunter -not William Shatner-, as Christopher Pike, in the pilot episode 'The cage' (1964). The cast was quite different from that of the classic series except for Leonard Nimoy as Spock.

Mary, Queen of Scots, was executed in 1573. She was so fond of playing billiards that the green felt was taken off her table and used as her burial shroud.

The average person will spend two weeks over their lifetime waiting for the traffic light to change.

It has been recommended by dentists that a toothbrush be kept at least 6
feet (two meters) away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting
    from the flush!

The term "happy-go-lucky" has been in existence since 1665.

I got you beat. In Hawaii, they have interstate highways. Why??? Also, you CAN ship something to Hawaii UPS ground. Lastly, it is estimated that, were it not for tourism, the Hawaiian language would have died out 75 years ago in favor of... drum roll..... Japanese.
