I personally have little use (or respect) for hiding identities on the BB. I would vote against allowing it if I were running this outfit.

I am Bob. Can't imagine hiding who I am. I stand behind every post I make.

    Dr. Bob,

I admire and respect your posts, your attitude...and the fact that you're a BB administrator [IMG]
But I have to disagree with you on this issue...simply for safety reasons.
I "stand behind" every post I make on this BB as well, and I'm certainly not ashamed of anything I say. Nor do I wish anonymity because I don't want to personally have to "back up" my opinions. And it's certainly not that I have anything to hide....well, except for ME.
This BB--or ANY internet BB--is simply too accessible to people who are NOT responsible, respectable, admirable, or even DECENT. If everyone used their full names, along with all the OTHER personal info that's given here, I just think it would set up too many opportunities for "bad guys" to take advantage of. And I worry about that for the YOUTH on this BB.
Having grown up in a family with a dad as a cop, I just naturally want to take safety precautions that others may think are unnecessary (or even ineffective). But I know it would be possible for some baddie to get on this BB even IF "full identities" were required, and they could use the full identity info of the good folks on the BB against them.
And that concept just scares me. If full names, addresses, etc. were required of me to post on the BB, then I'd just have to quit. Expressing my opinion here is just not worth that risk. And any parent here should be admonished to NEVER allow their kids--even fully mature teens--to post on a BB that requires that info.
I think it would definitely DECREASE the membership. :(

I wanted to keep my true identity a secret.

So, I put Bro. in front of my name.

Just try to look me up in the Phone book. There is no Bro. James Reed listed. (evil laugh on: heh heh heh :evil laugh off)

    :D

Even with my user name, I am still not anonymous. I have my home page listed on my profile and anyone can go there and see my FULL real name and where I live...

I started adding my real name once I realized that you all are nice people and I was safe here. I usually don't think to add it though unless I feel my post needs that extra personal touch.

For the most part, I think women are more cautious than men. But that picture really is me. [IMG]

When women live alone, they may list their phone like it is a man's. They may have an answering machine with a man's voice.

Before we were married, I was surprised that Ed used his full name on the internet. At that time, I thought that it just wasn't done.

I think I must be easily confused because when someone is referred to a name other than their user name, I have to search to see who it is.
Occasionally, I can't even find where they used their real name so I still don't know who it is.

I just think it should be one way or the other. It really doesn't matter to me which way it is.
I would use my real name if that becomes a rule.

In other words, if you use the user name, use it. If you use your real name use it, but mixing can be very confusing (at least to me).

Women in the private women's forum know my real name. But if my real name is used on the open board, many people will not know who you are talking about as I do not sign my posts.

    I don't worry so much ...
I'm fairly carefuly, though I do give out my real name and stuff.

I figure, hey, I live in an apartment building with high security (including a 24 hour security patrol) ... And I'm almost never alone when I'm not at home.

And I also know God will protect me. Doesn't mean I'm gonna jump off a bridge and say, "catch me," but I don't see too much of a problem in giving out my real name and some minimal other information.

Well My log in name is my true real name. I also use my true full name for school and on my comcast e-mail. Other than thatI use ginger fairway any place else. Now this is how i got ginger fairway. It is called something else, but here I don't think it is appropriate to say what it truly is, so I call it how to find out your alter ego. You take your childhood pets name that you grew up with, then that is the first name. then you take the street name that you greww up on and that is your last name. So for example my husband's childhood pet was Lady and he grew up on Ivy, So his alter ego is lady Ivy, he also has Tom Cottage, that one is not as funny, for obvious reasons. So i have two. One Ginger fairway or Coco deer run. I chose ginger fairway. I am also a writer and this is the name I chose for that as well.

So, I would be Duke Wood Heather.

I guess I could call myself Duke W. Heather.

Personally, I don't think I look like a Duke or a Wood, and definitely not a Heather. [IMG]

Speaking of names, is there a way I can change mine and keep all of the other information the same including the number of posts I have input?

I will be leaving Hawaii soon and it looks like I will be headed to Texas for my next duty assignment. No offense to Texans, but I don't think my name would reflect accurately any longer.

I want the name "Muffin Eagle" [IMG]

From the rules of the Baptist Board:

    10. Respect the privacy of others. Do not post phone numbers,
home addresses, pictures, etc., without permission.

I believe it breaks the spirit of this law if I reveal
    in a public place -- a private name that i learned in a non-public
place on this board, in a PM, or in an e-mail.

Okay, okay. So NO ONE takes me seriously when I suggest there's TMI given out with your real names. Just go ahead and make a big ole joke out of it!

    Signed,
    Friskie Highland
    aka BeeBee Emmett
aka Gaylord Centenary (Ooh! I like that one!)
