I am thinking about taking the family through the Gospel of John using the book studies books. These are books with study questions, fill in the blanks and such and will help us learn the bible better and not just some other book based on the Bible. Have you used them and what do you think?

For example

I have TOO many books in my collection but these books are study based and right from the Bible so they will be useful.

Brother, it is more important what YOU think.

I'm more of a DIY guy- I like to do my own writing and research.

[FONT=&quot]I have read this book, but I think that The Gospel According to John by Leon Morris and Encountering John by Andreas J. Köstenberger are much better works for studying John.

[FONT=&quot] Not that there’s anything wrong with MacArthur’s book. It depends on what you are looking for – if you are looking for an overview/summery but not an in depth study (perhaps a Sunday school type of material) then go with MacArthur. If you are wanting an in depth look at the gospel (and plan on taking considerable time working through the book) then I’d chose a commentary (which would also be a good companion for MacArthur’s book). We recommend the MacArthur studies for our group leaders in our curriculum catalogs. They are rather good and helpful to do book studies.

Thanks I will look forward as we ordered 3 copies for the rest of the family as we will study through the book.

BTW, Evan - (since I know you to be a MacArthur fan), have you read Fools Gold: Discerning Truth in an Age of Error?

How old are the kids and what level of spiritual maturity are they?
