Hey, guys, let's back up a little to the OP, shall we?

My answer was not intended to start an off-topic discussion about Easter vs. Passover. This has been rehashed over and over again ad nauseum. I apologize that my answer started this up. What I was merely pointing out is that, although there are mistakes in the KJV just like there are mistakes in all English translations (other languages too, I'm sure, but I can't read any other languages - I do well to read English  ), that doesn't mean that the KJV is ready for the garbage dump.

The fact that a Bible version was translated by a certain denomination (with the exception of the Clear Word Bible and the New World Translation of course) doesn't disqualify it as being the word of God.

I hope you had paid the attention to the previous threads about KJV and Easter.
Acts 12:4 states Pasxa but it can be translated either as Passover or Ishtar (Festival).
If you choosed Passover (Pesach) you would find the conflict with the previous verse 3. It was Days of ULB already. Ishtar festival took placed just a few days later than Passover. (Actually it started only one day later than Pesach as it celebrated Full Moon while Pesach was on the 14th. Then it lasted 8 days as well. The highlight of the Ishtar was Sunrise on Sunday and the Last Day for Orgy(actually sex party). Therefore it was rather a few days later than Pesach). In M.E. both Pesach and Ishtar ( Pascha) were translated into Pasxa in Greek. Ishtar was the name of Goddess in M.E and was called Ashtaroth in Lebanon, Ashera in Israel, Ostarte in Germany, Easter in England( transliterated from Ostarte).

Therefore KJV is quite correct in this translation and it is one of the several spots where KJV is outstanding and prevailing any other versions, with an exception to Third Millenium Bible.

If anyone wants to condemn KJV on this Acts 12:4, that person must explain in advance why Acts 12:3 says it was already Days of ULB while Passover is the first day of ULB which means Passover was already passed by. [/QB]</font>[/QUOTE]Sir, in the previous threads we proved that all the excuses for the KJV's use of Easter were wrong, except one...that it was a carryover from earlier times when Easter was often substituted for Passover in translation because the word Passover wasn't coined until the 1530s by Tyndale. Dr. Cassidy reminded us of that months ago.

Wrong or not, it's certainly no reason to not use the KJV.

If you(or anyone else) need proof that the other reasons are wrong, I shall be happy to PM them upon request.

    Hi everyone on this thread,
I didn't have any intention to hijack this thread to Acts 12:4 or Easter matter. I understand Keith M could mention about this matter as there is a certain gap in understanding KJV as a compromise. Because I think none of the posters on this thread has been arguing irrationally so far and we may find a profound and worthwhile information on this occasion.

So,please allow me to present my points.

The background for my assertion is not in the Dr. Hislop.
First my reference comes from Hebrew-Aramaic Dictionary by Brown-Driver-Briggs-Gesenius, page 820, Word Pesach which says:
    1) Passover as per Ex 12:13
    2) in Assyrian Pasahu, soothe, placate (Deity), which means a certain soothing deity in Assyrian region. Ref: P. Jensen Cosmologie der Babyonier
Ref: Babylonische Busspsalmen by H. Zimmern.
This dictionary has been written by Jewish sages, having nothing to do with Dr. Hislop.

We can check further on the other

    This explains quite well:

    The Question is this:
Even in Assyrian area, throughout Middle East, people celebrated Pasahu. What was that festival? ? Did they know about Passover? Did they know about Crossing Red Sea? did they worship Jehovah ?

Sorry folks, but there was a warning. Easter/Pasha/Passover is not the topic of this thread. I am therefore closing it since it can't stay on the topic.
